We have three Jack Russells. I know, we are insane. Our oldest, Rebel, was the easiest to train because he was our first. We also had the help of my mother-in-law for the first 7 months. Dixie, the 2nd, wasn't too terribly bad. We kept them in a crate while we were away but let them out as soon as we got home (I have the luxury of going home for lunch every day). Linus, the youngest, was a bit harder. I guess it's the same as kids. By the time the youngest comes around you just let up some.
While they are puppies, you have to be diligent about getting them outside at least every hour. You have to stay out there with them and use some kind of word. My MIL got us hooked on "quick-quick" (even though I hate it) and my SIL uses "peeps"..."Go peeps." Once they go, praise them and bring them back in. In the beginning a small treat may even help things progress.
As far as being hyper, welcome to the world of Jack Russells. They may slow down a tiny bit as they age, but not much. You have to find ways to expend their energy. In the summer, we let them swim and run around the pool. They are usually wore out for the rest of the day. The winter is a bit harder and they can tear things up in the house if they get too bored.
We have two personalities in our house. Rebel loves his tennis ball, or any ball for that matter. He carries it around and bugs the crap out of you until you throw it. Dixie is a hunter. She can be gone for hours on end out hunting (thankfully we live on a farm). She brings us home trophies all the time. Linus has a bit of both. He wants to play all the time, but if we let him he'll go out hunting. We don't let him go out too much anymore unless he is by himself. He went out two years ago with Dixie and barely made it back home because a groundhog attacked him (yes, they attack). We nearly lost him. We'll let him run around the farm if he is by himself or if Rebel is with him because he always comes home within 15 minutes. If Dixie or my MIL's dogs are out, we won't let him loose. They won't come back home for hours.
Anyway, enjoy your baby! The biting will get better, she's just teething. And the teeth won't stay that sharp! Their adult teeth have smoother tips.
