LOL! I love this for inside-joke reasons. But wow.

I feast upon the beauty of things that others shun. In netherworlds and crypts I dwell. I am the alien one.
I wallow in the old world, in things that they condemn. Through solitude and shadow, the outsider I am.

So begins another week in the CSU. I have found appropriate mood music for this occasion.

Our city is the largest city in the area...we are not real big but we stay busy. Two of the county's on either side of us have their own Crime Scene Units..the rest do not. They rely on the state to come in and invesitgate anything big that happens but frequently they ask for our assistance on some of the small stuff. Mainly they bring us fingerprints to run or some evidence to process. The county across the river has a very capable CSU and they stay almost as busy as us. The other county, while their guys are very capable, they dont have nearly the same crime rate. Especially the big stuff. They had four homicides last year to our 27. They have had a few in the past were they have asked us to come in and help.

Last year they had a homicide which as a matter of fact is currently starting its third day of trial as I write this. (If you happen to be on the jury in this case, stop reading and come back and read this after the trial is over).A week ago the prosecutor found out that the defense is going to have an expert witness on testimony come in and basically say that the witnesses didnt see what they saw happened. the witnesses were a little over a football field away and on a hill from where the murder happened. The prosecutor called me and asked if I knew of anyway to measure out the scene etc... so they could have something to show the jury. I told them I did but that the other county had the same equipment and that their traffic investigation team could measure it. (I am the only one in the area besides the state that has the equipment and knowledge to forensically map a crime scene) The traffic team has the same equipment and could do the basic measurements but I agreed to go out to the scene and consult.

Once I got there and had a chance to look around I came up with a plan on how to proceed. Once the traffic team showed up I explained to them what we were going to do...their response was "Whut?" so I explained it to them again...again I got the response of "Whut?"

Now I am not bashing on them...they are good at what they do....but they do traffic accidents....I'm looking at the scene from a crime scene prespective....so I walked them through what I wanted to do and once we got done I asked them if they understood and they all nodded their heads and said "Whut?"

I finally got them to set up their equipment and I was going to walk them through all the steps....and figures...the equipment had a malfunction and wouldnt work. I didnt have my set up because I had let our traffic team borrow mine because they had multiple scenes they were having to map that week. I came up with a plan B and that is what we ended up doing. Hopefully it helps. I could have gotten my equipment but it was already late in the day and we would have had to come back and shoot on the next day which would have been Thursday. That would have only given me less than a day to prepare the map on the computer and get it to the prosecutor so he could then get it to the defense. Plus, one of the family members of the victim in this case works for our department and is a friend of mine so I was trying to stay out of it as much as possible to avoid any conflict of interest.

So...just gonna have to wait and see how the trial plays out.
