One of these days, it would be nice to meet all of you. Maybe this should be in the Games section, but I would like it if we would all list the requirements to bring everyone together. I'll start...
1) A large public hall
2) Catering
3) Music
4) Airline tickets for those who couldn't afford it.
5) Hotel arrangements
Mod, if you feel that this should be in the Games section, then go ahead and move it.

I've always felt that a conference would be great. We've got the numbers now, over 20,000 members and counting...

An HF Con would be great! What would we need?
City to host it! I'd suggest Las Vegas, at least for the first one...make things easier for Larry.
Candy because...well...
Vendors and sponsors maybe?a plague on both your houses

Lots of great ideas. Unfortunately, I'm lousy at organizing events larger than 25 people. Any takers?

If you're serious about it, get together 4+ people to run it as a team. One person is transportation, another food, another events, another lodging.
After that, you get together an interest check to see how many people would come along. Ask:
Budget
Location
How far they're willing to travel
How much they're willing to pay to travel
What they would like to do while there
Using this information your team can decide where the best location would be to encompass as many people as possible, decide on a hall or building, how to get there etc.
Don't worry, it seems like a lot to start with but once the ball gets moving and you have a team to help you along, it'll be a blast.
Have fun

A convention such as this would go down in the pages of history as one of the most righteous parties ever. I would LOVE to attend, but would be faced with a couple of challenges...
#1- money for the trip (especially if it was in Vegas)
#2- opportunity to go-it'd have to be during a long weekend at least, because I couldn't miss any school for it
#3- I'd want to know that a lot of friends had signed in their own blood saying they'd show up

You already know, unfortunately, you will never be able to make this affordable and convenient for everyone or even most of the people. So if it ever comes to be, do your best to make it convenient for Larry and as affordable as possible for everyone. Of course, every year someone comes up with the great idea (in my opinion, it's great) to get us all together from one halloween type forum or another, and it lasts about a week, then fizzes off the edge. It is just too much for anyone to want to take on, and there are so many other things like MNTs or mini conventions all over that people commit to and don't have time for a national thingy. I wish it would happen. It would be great to plan one for some time like next spring when it is warm and no one is maxed out getting ready for Halloween yet.

I was thinking that Gym Whourfield's place might be a good spot for an inaugural HF Con. Central location, Illinois. But Vegas has lots of cheap junket type deals as far as air fares go. I'm a member of Mensa Canada, we've only got around 3,500 members. That yearly convention is well attended.

A conference would be perfect, putting a face to the name. You should post this in the Gatherings and Conventions section, you might get more ideas on how to make this possible.
