I've been a Crime Scene Investigator for about three years. Prior to that I was a Violent Crimes Investigator and then Homicide. Unlike most of the TV CSI's, I am still a cop and still work with the violent crimes guys in going out on search warrants and man hunts. I still like kicking in doors. Other than that I get to see lots of dead people and I get to poke them too.

I have been many things... the typical cashier for fast food / gas station; a regional manager for a home sales company; an insurance rep; housecleaning manager; etc.
My favorites though: Locksmithing - I absolutely loved this. I am female and 4'11" and my favorites would be getting calls in the middle of the night from "good ol'e boys" coming out of adult stores and realizing they had locked their keys in their cars... it is amazing that you can still see them blushing in halogen lights!!!!! and no, I was never worried about being attacked, never carried a weapon (too easy to take away and be turned on you) my riding buddy was a Siberian Husky trained in Russian commands and silent signals (he has since died, I still miss him). NEVER had a problem with unwanted advances... or getting paid for that matter
One of my sons is now going into the business, he learned how to pick locks at 14, probably not the brightest thing in the world to teach a teenager, but he never abused the knowledge (and yes I would know, I live in a very small town and here everyone knows what you had for breakfast 2 seconds after you ate it).
and a sous chef - I love to cook, and surprisingly knowing how to cook for 150+ actually comes in handy!
Now I do not work but volunteer. I am a Service Unit Director for my county for the Girl Scouts, 11 years (basically I am the leader for all the troop leaders and make sure have a well rounded program for the 100+ girls); help the local American Legion on Bingo nights by running the kitchen and the cash register, 3 years (and can you believe have never in my life played bingo???); and Soldiers Angels, where write letters and send packages to soldiers overseas, 4 years.G.K. Chesterton wrote: "Fairy tales do not tell children that dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children that dragons can be killed."

I'm the "tech guy" for a loosely associated group of businessmen with a variety of retail ventures. So basically, I'm the computer guy, the electrician, the programmer, the mechanic, the carpenter, the plumber, the guy who fixes the secretary's kids XBox, you name it. The bulk of my time is spent repairing and unlocking/flashing cell phones for the cell phone stores in the group, but I never know what tomorrow brings.

Garthgoyle, sounds like you and I have something in common. Though in my case, I do research in alternative energy R&D. Basically, I'm trying to find ways on using wind power vertical turbines more efficient and creative places to locate them.

I am a Production Supervisor for a security company which manufactures Commercial Safes, CCTV systems and Loss Prevention goods. I am totally under-paid though as for all the tasks on my plate.
Never-the-less, I am thankful to have a job in this horrible economy!
My job duties are: REPORTS(Grrr), Purchasing, Payroll, Planning, Manpower, Training, Safety compliance, Employee relations(Evaluations & Discipline) and sooo much more boring duties...
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

Such interesting stories!! It's nice to see what you all do for a living outside of terrorizing the neighborhood!
My story: I'm the leader of my small organization of 5. The newest addition to my team was brought on board roughly 8 months ago & she doesn't really pull her own weight just yet, so its been tough.
I do it all from executive management to training & lifeskills to janitorial services. Some days are better than others...like tomorrow, school is starting & I will finally have some "vacation" time, alone, to work on my creative decorating for the upcoming holiday season.
My career (or the things I actually get paid to do): I'm a leader of two small direct sales businesses. I help couples "Enhance the Romance" in a relationship. I also help people reach & maintain a healthy lifestyle by educating them on our supplements & body applicators which detoxifies their bodies & helps them lose inches within 45 minutes in a safe, all natural, effective way.
What I want to be when I grow up: A Rockstar or possibly a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader...I can't decide yet.
