I'm working at the Idaho Humane Society and we're gearing up for all the lost pets that will be brought in because they got scared by the fireworks. So here's a few tips to keep your pets safe: Dogs (and cats) get really scared by the fireworks so it's good to keep them inside, put on the TV's or radios in as many rooms as you can so they hear familiar sounds instead of just the fireworks. Don't pet them and tell them not to be nervous because then they know something's wrong. If you're home with them, do something they like to do, play with their favorite toy or ball. If they're extremely scared by loud noises, ask your vet for calming doggie drugs. There are also some homeopathic calming remedies that you can get at pet/feed stores. And always make sure they have current identification and better yet, a microchip.

If you love your pets like I do, you don't want them to runaway or worse get hit by a car or lost forever. Let's all have a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday!

Thanks so much for the important tips...I have two cats and I know that loud noises can sometimes make them nervous. I'll be keeping my windows closed on the 4th to reduce it.
"Can't even shout. Can't even cry. The gentlemen are coming by. Looking in windows. Knocking on doors. They need to take seven and they might take yours. Can't call to mom. Can't say a word. You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard."

Thanks for these - always a good reminder! I know we'll be having our air on this weekend because all the loud reports & noise from the local pyros makes her nervous.

Take care, and have a Happy Fourth of July!
