Hi Everyone,
My husband and I have been actively involved in our community for the past 10 years. Our house is one in a group of 40 houses that are all on the national monument list in holland. We've been fighting for the past 9 years to keep the houses that surround those 40 houses from being demolished. We finally won and the houses around us were also declared monuments and put on the list. They have been working this past year on renovating the houses and selling them. The project is at its end now and we have 11,000 euros available to give a big party to celebrate!
I'm on the party committee and need ideas for a game. The first part of the celebration will be the official part....with speeches, thank you's, etc. Then we want to have a game so the old timers can get to know the new buyers. Then after that its bbq-ing, music and dancing the rest of the night.
I keep coming up with a blank for the game. Someone suggested 'speed dating with the neighbors' but that would seem hard to organize with so many people. If everyone shows up (which is not very likely) we are talking around 200 people.
Anyone have any experience with large neighborhood or company parties/games? Or been to a large neighborhood or company party where they had a good icebreaker game? Got any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
MsM

The only thing that springs to my mind is the game where everyone gets the name of a famous person put on a nametag on their back that they can't see, and they can ask questions of anyone else to try to figure out who they have (yes/no questions? I can't remember).
I'm not sure how that would go with that large a crowd, tho.
Congrats on your neighborhood being declared historical. I think that's just wonderful that more of the homes were saved - people are entirely too enthusiastic to tear down something "old" that happens to be better built and with more character in favor of putting up something "new" that is badly made and cookie-cutter boring. History IS important and a darn-sight more interesting than the boring stuff that gets thrown together nowadays.

First- 11000 euros equals how many US dollars?

Second- All old timers love BINGO! Not really an 'ice breaker' game, tho. Maybe put them in teams.

Thanks for the suggestion and the link.
Yeah it is really great that we were able to save the houses even though its meant living in a construction site for the past 8 months. I'm really looking forward to things being normal again and having a big party to celebrate
