Great find, Death Clutch! What is even more scarey is the fact that "dispersants" are being used to "break up" the stuff. All it does is make it harder to detact, allowing it to spread faster, all the while becoming even more toxic to the environment in the process.

Welcome to the Forum, Buddy! Love that avatar.

Yeah dude, it's jacked up down there. Very sad... It breaks my heart to even turn on the news anymore. We're still seeing the effects of the Exxon Valdez spill, and estimates state that the leak in the Gulf has spewed twice as much oil than the Exxon Valdez. Scary...
Thanks for the warm welcome and the compliment on the mask in my avatar! It's my baby!

I currently work in the "Ohl Bidness" in Northern Alberta, that Athabasca Tar Sands. There exists a culture in this business that is all about cutting costs. "Git 'er done", but do it fast and cheap. The idea of pumping Drilling Mud to plug the hole, for example. That stuff burns your skin. If it gets on your boots, the leather starts showing signs of corrosion by the end of the shift. Incredibly corrosive stuff, highly toxic. So what does BP, this "Green" Corporate Giant, do to stop the gusher? Pump this stuff into the Gulf of Mexico!!! Hey, EPA, whaddaya think of THAT?
Now we hear that this dispersant is spreading the crap down to 3,000 feet into a massive "plume", and 1/4 of the Gulf is now closed to fishing. Oh, you watch us, we jus' gettin' STARTED here!
BP was the major player pushing to get Obama to appprove Off-Shore drilling in the Arctic. If we have ANY brains in Washiington, that decision will be "revisited."

So, having said that, what can WE do? Well, you can do what I did. Run out and buy up all the Jumbo Shrimp you can get your hands on. Fill your freezer. The Gulf provides 70% of North America's Shrimp and Oyster market. In fact, there was a rush right after the explosion of Shrimpers going out before the fisheriy was shut down. Several dozen Sea Turtles were found washed up on the beach right after that. They had drowned in shrimp nets, nothing unusual, this is what is known as "by-catch".

It's a shame that most people never even consider the consequences. The way we're headed, the future looks more like "Mad Max" than "Star Trek".
