I didn't find out until today (Wed morning) for those who haven't heard...


RIP Paul!


The metal world has lost another great musician this week. Paul Gray , the original bassist for SLIPKNOT was found dead in a Des Moines hotel room. An autopsy performed on the SLIPKNOT bassist was found inconclusive and it will be several weeks before toxicology reports are returned.

Paul Gray, originally born in LA, moved to Des Moines when he was really young. Before SLIPKNOT, Gray performed in bands such as Anal Blast, Vexx, Body Pit, and Inveigh Catharsi. A left handed bassist, Gray always wore a grey leather mask on stage, similar to “Man in the Iron Mask.”

His bandmates and musical brothers, remembered Paul Gray for his big heart and was considered the soul of the band SLIPKNOT. “There is really nothing more to say than that it’s very important that everybody, outside of us, understands that Paul Gray was the essence of the band Slipknot,” said percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan at a press conference at Wells Fargo Arena . Crahan helped found the band with Gray back in 1995.

Gray’s widow, Brenna who is pregnant with their first child, and brother Tony joined the bandmates during the press conference. “Yesterday we lost our brother, and the world seems a little smaller because of it,” frontman Corey Taylor said. “He was everything that was wonderful about this band and this group of people. The only way I can sum up Paul is ‘love.’”

Joey Jordison , the drummer of SLIPKNOT summed it up beautifully. He said, “I just want to say that I love you, Paul, very much. You’ll be sorely missed by the world over.”

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Way too many amazing musicians have passed away this year"

It is terrible to hear of someone passing away so young. I feel bad for his wife and unborn child...can't imagine what they must be going through at this time.

My cousin has actually been friends with Joey Jordison for quite some time. She is flying to Ohio today to be with him during the funeral.

What an awful situation for all.

I cried a little...... I've loved these guys since they came out, seen them several times..... The thought of how the rest of the band feels now losing their fellow band member, friend, brother of 15 years........And his wife and unborn child losing someone so caring......... Sad...
