Our city cemetery has a new resident. It's actually been living there for a few weeks now and has drawn a lot of attention. Cemetery officials want it gone and have hired trappers to capture and remove it but it has thus far eluded them. The coyote has gained a fan following of citizens who want it left alone. The animal has been seen in broad daytlight by severl folks and has not been a nuisance. It probably has a good diet of squirrel/chipmunk, and I'm wondering if it leaves the area at night to search for food. Either way it's become a great local story and there is even a facebook campaign to save it!

Beautiful creature, I hope it doesn't come to any harm.

This is a nice healthy looking animal. A lot of the coyotes around here are pretty scrawny looking. Makes me think this one is eating well. According to the Cemetery director, they hope it will move on to another place. If not they want the trapper to hopefully capture it alive. I've read where they have set snares for it, so it sounds like the animal would be injured if caught. Again, it has a fan club and a lot of people want it left alone.

They are very skittish and with so many new people coming around to see will drive it off.

This what we're thinking. The cemetery has become an attraction of sorts for rubberneckers hoping to catch a glimpse of it. It's a large urban cemetery and a lot of places to hide but there have been several sightings.

Maybe it's a zombie coyote, or a skinny werewolf!
Cool pic. I like the "Catch-Hell" tombstone behind him.

That's one beautiful animal. Or, seeing as it's in a Graveyard, should that be "boo-tiful"? If it does become a nuisance, and they want to drive it off, just start a rumor that there's a CHUPACABRA on the loose in the cemetary.

Ha ha, nice 'catch', Dave. I hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it. That's what I get for not reading the local paper. I too live in Erie (well actually just west of there in the neighboring township, Millcreek. )

I've always had a fondness for coyotes, even as a kid, I always rooted for Wile E. and thought he was getting a raw deal, despite having an even more unsavory reputation than wolves...

So jdub, this is the cemetery between W 19th an W 26th near St. Vincent's Hospital, right? Sure is a long way from Presque Isle...

I'm at that awkward stage in life... Somewhere between 'Annoying Fanboy' ...and 'Dirty Old Man'...

Yup. That's the one. It really is a big parcel of land. Haven't heard anything more about it recently so maybe it's moved on. One of my wife's co-workers saw one near 38th and State one morning just before dawn. They're pretty adaptable to populated areas.
