I am so ticked right now that posting here may not suffice! I had mentioned before how my External hard drive stopped working. Well I got my new power supply in the mail, but the drive STILL won't turn on. So I went to get a new 500GB drive, (the old one is obsolete, and had only 242GB) . Thinking that everything would be O.K. since a couple of months ago, I purchased a membership to Carbonite.com. I guess I have only myself to blame. Though to be fair I don't know how I couldn't have seen THIS coming.

Here's a bit of free advice, if ever you find yourself in need of additional storage on your computer, save up a little, and either get a new computer, or get it taken to a shop and have newer, larger hard drives installed IN THE ACTUAL COMPUTER Don't do what I did.

I don't have a car, and getting someone to transport me and my computer to a shop to have an upgrade done seemed costly and inconvenient. I did things on the cheap, as it were, and bought an external hard drive. BOY WAS I EVER WRONG!

It wasn't until tonight that I discovered that CARBONITE DOES NOT BACKUP FILES ON AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE! They have a service called CarbonitePro, which is designed primarily for small businesses and families with more than one computer,and/or has external hard drives. The problem? This service charges a flat rate depending on the amount of storage needed...

Gigabytes Monthly Fee
Up to 20GB $10
20GB - 49GB $25
50GB-99GB $50
100GB-149GB $75
150GB-199GB $100
200GB-299GB $150
300GB-499GB $250

For space over 499 GB call us at
866-596-7988

So in my case w/ a new 500 GB HDD, we're probably looking at what $3000-4000 a year? YEEEEEEESH!!!!

The thing of it is, according to Carbonites' terms of service:

"Computer" (whether or not capitalized) means a desktop or laptop computer, network device,

and any storage device attached to them in any fashion."

So you see my reason for being upset. I'm going to call them, to try to get a clarification, but I'm not holding my breath...
