We aren't into model trains, but our son loves Thomas the Train, which they had in spades today.
Wow... what a ridiculously expensive and cool hobby. The details made me think about you guys that do the Lemax villages. Custom trees, tombstones, cars, etc.... LED lights out the wazoo.
Unbelievable setups. They even had a lego city that was the most detailed thing I've ever seen, and we've been to Legoland!
Exhausted after all that walking around, and holding up the kid to see everything, but it was a fun day.
Any train people on here?

When my two oldest boys were little, we had a nice HO set-up in ourbasement. Buildings, people, trees, etc.. Had a nice collection of trains and a really nice Mantua steam engine. Alas, they outgrew the hobby and everything eventually got dismantled and sold. There is an active Model RR club in our town and I went to one of the meetings several years back. It was in a guys houyse which was a huge ranch style home. The entire basement was a train layout and this thing was incredible. Several trains on different tracks, tunnels, simulated ponds and rivers. Working traffic lights at road intersections. We spent over two hours there and I still didn't see it al. This guy was in his late 50's and it had been a lifelong hobby.

Years ago I built a house for a family that featured a room above the garage that was specially designed for a modeltrain set-up. Low ceiling, clear span. I heard later that the couple got divorced and the wife cited the husbands passion for trains as a reason to terminate the relationship. Go figure.
