Over 20,000 dolphins are slaughtered in Taiji, Japan annually. Even after the secret was exposed in "The Cove", these killings continue. On top of this, the meat from the dolphins is unknowingly poisoned with mercury, the most toxic, non-radioactive, chemical in the world. The meat is then sold at grocery stores, often advertised as other whales or fish, and not dolphin meat.
I would post some videos, but they are far too violent and disturbing to post on a G-Rated forum.
The following link does not lead to a violent/inappropriate site, but it leads to a site where you can do your part to stop these inhumane killings.

Thanks for this thread, Mr Skellington. We have seen dolphins up close, right under the bow of our fishing boat. They enjoy the "push" from the pressure wave. BUT. They ALSO enjoy looking up at us, crowded at the front of the boat looking down at them! There is definitely an intentional interspecies interaction there. If everyone could experience wild dolphins up close and interacting like that, there would be a world-wide outcry against the slaughter. But, alas, the vast majority of people feel absolutely no connection with Nature. And I've noted that members of this Forum are no different in that respect.

Skellington... Wolfman!! Wow - so glad you posted this. I have been following this for nearly a year now.
There is a movie that came out that has the entire international community putting pressure on the Cove residents who engage in the killings. The Japanese gov. is embarrassed and hopefully they can stop all future slaughtering. Have you seen the movie? This is one of the causes I really believe in. So good to see your post. Way to spread the word!

"The Cove" won the Oscar for best documentary.
Taiji Mayor Kazutaka Sangen said, ‘‘Dolphin hunting is not an illegal activity. It is necessary to respect each culture’s diet, based on an understanding of regional traditions.’‘
Negotiations are under way with a distributor in Japan, although no release date has been set yet.

My wife who is Filipina worked and lived in Japan, and I can say from her opinion and treatment mine now on the culture and nation as a whole isn't stellar. There is a dichotomy there where traditions and attitudes presented to the outside world is a fasade of posturing apart from the norm.
They and the government know exactly what is happening and only go through the motions in a dance and pony show to everyone else.
Don't get me wrong there are very good and kind people there as in anywhere, but generally I don't care for their attitudes in society. What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

Glad you brought this to every one's attention Mr. Skellington. It never ceases to amaze how barbaric humans can be.
