I ask because I am thinking about starting a course to get lisenced. Right now I am a hairstylist and do have a few clients that are agents. But I don't feel comfortable asking them questions or inquiring considering that I'm thinking of leaving that to start a new career.

I'm just curious and would love some general info. I have two particular clients that act like they can't even go to the bathroom without their cell phones strapped to their ear in case a client calls. This has put me off for awhile because they made it seem like you can't be a real estate agent unless you live, breath, and sh*t it for a living. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go ahead with the course though. I just want to make sure that I can keep some semblance of my life while doing this!

I am getting back into real estate myself after being out of it for almost 5 years due to my daughters illness. She is doing well and I have got some stuff about myself in line to where I feel I can work at it again.

I was in real estate for about 10 years. I liked it.

I would not spin my wheels, I decided what the farthest I would drive and referred the rest & I would not work with jerks!

You will put out a lot of money before you see dime one!

When I worked before I always had a 3:00 appointment, it was to pick up my daughter from school, I was fortunate that the office I worked for I could bring her in with me, she had a room where she would be for about 2 hours until I was done, she could do her homework, eat a snack, watch a movie etc.

I was not tied to my phone, however when I did not want to answer I would change my message saying how I 'out of the office' or 'on an appointment' but would return calls at whatever time.

You make what you put into it!

Do you homework before you select a Broker to work under! In the small town where I work there are 'ethically challenged' agents, ones who don't care what you do as long as you get a sale, some will not help you in getting started they just throw you in the water and see if you can swim, some that are great!

    Good Luck!!

Natascha, thank you for your reply and thanks for the info! I know that I love real estate. I can sit for hours and look at real estate on-line...for fun. All of my favorite shows are home shows or shows like house hunters, property virgins etc. My husband has been telling me for the longest time that he thinks I've missed my calling.

I like the idea that I can do it full time or part time. But don't much about what working under a broker is like/costs/etc. I've heard that you do spend a lot to just get started, which is kind of funny considering you're spending money to work.

The whole ethical thing bothers me a bit...but I guess I can weed the good from the bad with some research. My husband and I have had some bad experiences with agents that were only out for their commission...trying to get us to spend WAY more then we were comfortable with. I don't want to be like that. I want to help people find homes that fit them, their lifestyles AND their budget...end of story. Thanks again for your reply! I need all the info I can get!

Halloweenrocks: Good for you! Let me know what course you decide on. I was looking at Pa assocation for real estate and they have a course through PRI. I can take all 60 hours or do 30 and 30. I think I'm going to end up doing the two 30 hours courses so I can take my time with each. Good luck with it though!
