If not, go NOW. It is beautiful, transporting, exciting, engrossing, fabulous, inspiring.....

An Oscar contender, for sure. I'll go so far as to say it will be nominated for Best Picture and Cameron for Best Director, as well as take special effects.

Let me know what you think.

I think the visuals were spectacular, but the story (and writing as a whole) very weak, dull, and utterly predictable.

Best special effects? sure (although I believe District 9 desserves the award for it's far more complicated integration of CG characters into a real world situation with handheld cameras)

    Best picture? I hope not.

Best director? I hear J. Cameron is kind of a jerk on set, so I'd rather he didn't get it.

    ...but that's just me

I agree with Mr. Chickens assesment of Avatar completely! Very predictible. Yes the graphics were great or was it just bright and colorful? hmmm.......
I hope it doesn't go the way of those movies that just landslide in all catagories and everyone else with a great movie just sits on the sideline.

In my view, Mr. Chicken nailed it on the head. I saw it on Opening Night in #-D IMAX and was disappointed. But don't let that put you off, it IS ground-breaking in it's own way.

I truly enjoyed the film. People are comparing it to Dancing with Wolves, and several other films saying it's a copy. To say this is copying is b.s..I'd call it getting inspiration. Their crew created a whole new world, people, creatures, language, etc. and it's unique in its own way. Countless other movies have similar stories and plots, over and over again, horror films for example. It just happens that due to Avatar's massive success, people are finding a way to criticize it in one way or another.

I gotta tell you, I am NOT James Cameron's biggest fan...as a matter of fact, I think he's an arrogant...well, you know (this is a family site after all ) but I went to see it anyway. And I was glad I did. And I must agree with Mr Chicken, the screenplay could be the weakest aspect of the film. But the visuals were soooo spectacular, I found that a small thing.

I'm going to see it again tomorrow!!!!

I definitely must see it again before it ends in theaters....it just won't be the same watching it in my living room when it comes out on dvd. I very rarely go to the theater, but I'm glad I went this time.Cameron being a jerk doesn't phase me, he and his crew did a hell of a job.
