I can't get enough of this.

This scene remains one of the best "ghost portrayals" I've ever seen, in this or any other picture. A lot more anguished, commanding, and genuinely motivated than many lesser hauntings --

    YouTube - CurtisAmusements's Channel

-- A highlight for me is Marley's "Long John Silver-esque" declaration (5:35) that Scrooge's shot at reclamation is "a chance and hope of my procuring, Ebenezer..." Like his former greedy nature just can't let pass an opportunity to claim a pinch of vain credit, for saving his ex-partner's spiritual bacon, um, so to speak. And like, maybe if "Somebody's" listening, he can knock a length of chain or two off his perditious sentence...

I just have to see this whole pic every year, and I find something new in it every time. This year, I discovered what fun it is to watch the Housekeeper and the Laundress and the Undertaker eye each other -- each with just the quickest flash of resentment, chagrin, and envy, as they place their "deathbed swag" before the Rag Merchant. The "Oooo, I wish I'd thought to nab that" moments are brilliantly performed like vivid flashes of lightning, all in their expressions.

God Bless Us, Every-weird-bent-mischievous-loony-wild-souled-One around here.

So, 2010. Time to Feast, yes...?

HAPPY NEW YEAR, HF, and Most Sanguine Cheers,
    SOT

Thanks for sharing, Son, and I agree, the film is amazing, still a masterpiece after all these years. Even "Mickey's Christmas Carol" couldn't hold a candle to it.

That is my all time favorite version of the Scrooge story. Still the best after all these years. Thanks for posting!

I love this version, I do have a few favorites ones, this is one of them. I didn't see this one anywhere this year, or Patrick Stewards version either(not as good as this. but still like it) I need to try to get them all, like Hallorenescene did, at sales or flea market. I actually love all the versions this classic tale of redemption! I do like this version of Marley's ghost!1

Alistair Sim's version is my ultimate favorite! That and White Christmas are my two holiday musts!
Just saw for the first time this last Christmas the Sir Seymour Hicks version called "Scrooge". Worth a look. Some very interesting moments and he is brilliant, can see why he was Knighted, but the flick does take some liberties (an Adolph Zukor film) so will watch it again but it will never replace Sim's. Got it super cheap, maybe at Big Lots or Walmart, one of those holiday bins. The back has a picture of Alistair Sim on it! So I had to buy it and find out what the heck!
Did anyone catch Bah Humduck? Have it tivo'd but haven't seen it yet.

One of my favorite bits is when Marley takes the binding from his head and his jaw falls open, gets me every time!
