I posted a few things on craigs list, and keep getting email from 2 different people. both with gmail accounts, ive told both to call me to discuss the type of items I custom build. neither have called. just emails. no discussion about the product. they both want to send me checks for well over the original cost. both say that i'll have to cash the check and pay the delivery company, by depositing the delivery charge in to there account. both email sound very much alike. neither one of theses "guys" know the weight of the product. isnt that a big thing with shipping?has anyone sold stuff on craigs before and recieved suspicious replies? please help/advice!
and I get almost immediate responces from both of them, at the same time.

It is totally a scam.
If they aren't able to get your checking account, then the way it works is that they send you a counterfit money order or check. It takes a few days for YOUR bank to figure out that the item is fake, and during that time, you'll have already "cashed" the amount, sent them a REAL check or money order for the difference, leaving you holding the bag with YOUR bank for the total amount which YOUR bank will most certainly take back out of your account. The scammers don't want the item you're selling, it's just a money scam pure and simple.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

Sounds like a scam to me, exactly as Frankie's Girl has described.
However, you can have them send a money order in the right amount.
Or a cashier's check.Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...

A woman I work with had to bail her son out of one of these scams. He fell for it selling a dirt bike online. They ended up having to pay every last dime back to the local bank that cashed the check.
Here is a link on the FTC's website about these very scams if you still have any doubts. I have heard of many variations on the same scam.

Thank you for the info on the consumer alert, that is a very valuable piece of info that everyone should read, whether or not they sell items.that sounds like the crap these 2 are trying to pull on me.There is nothing that can be done until they actually pull the scam.If the athorities and I "set them up" this is concidered entrapment.Isnt it grand how bastards like these 2 are protected by laws!I told that randy guy that he is a con and I wont do business with him,if he wants the items he has to apear at my residence with cash,so he offered me 1500.00 (check).crazy!all this for a 50 dollar coffin.
