I had a mammogram 2 weeks ago and they called and said I needed an ultrasound on the right because there is a small mass. So I went, figuring it was not a big deal. I got a call on Friday from the Dr. saying they want to do a needle biopsy because it's "mildly suspicious". I'm totally freaking out and making myself sick. Dr. says not to worry but I can't help myself! Any experience with this? I'm 41 years old and this is only my 2nd mammo.! Any words of wisdom is greatly appreciated!

You are right. This is a real Halloween scare. My heart goes out to you.
I know the biopsy sounds really scary but right now just think of it as another test. There are hundreds of thousands of biopsys a year that don't find cancer.
Not all masses or tumors are cancerous. Tumors that aren't cancer are called benign. These tumors are almost never life threatening and are very common.
I am 29 and I have had two biospsys but they have never found cancer.
But I have to admit I was a wreck each time, and nothing anyone said consoled me.
I will keep you in my prayers.Darkness has a hunger that's insatiable

First, take a deep breath and try to relax. It could be as simple as a cyst or a benign tumor. Finding anything unusual in any medical test can be scary. Don't run and hide, thinking if you don't know it will go away. Keep yourself occupied til you get the results of the biopsy. If you find yourself thinking about it try to redirect your thinking, get busy doing something that takes light attention, trying to concentrate on a difficult task will just raise your anxiety.
Be strong, you can handle anything life throws at you. Know that your friends here will be with you. I know I'll be here looking for updates or if you just need someone to talk to. Oh yeah one last thing

Like the others said, try to relax (even though its hard to do) and try to keep positive thoughts.
I'll give you a positive thought to begin with. You are very fortunate to get mammograms at your age. Where I live you only get them after the age of 50. Early prevention and detection is key!
Hang tough!
