So, I'm on the way to visit my mom for the weekend when out of nowhere what do I see??? Someone already has their Christmas decorations up! Their entire yard was lit up with Christmas. UGH. WTH?? Who puts Christmas decorations out in October? I mean, do you accidentally turn too many pages on the calendar? Come on! I'm sure there is probably some logical explanation for such behavior. I suppose it's possible that someone in their family is military and will not be there for Christmas or something similar, but it was still disturbing.
On a brighter note, last night I was telling my husband how sad I was that they moved the pumpkin patch to a different location this year. In previous years I would pass it everyday on my way to work, and for whatever reason just seeing all the pumpkins made me happy. Just a fall tradition I guess. So when I went home for lunch today there was a pumpkin on each step leading to our front door. He said he wanted me to be able to see pumpkins everyday even if they did move the patch.![]()

I saw the same thing today! I was shocked! Right next door to a house just starting to put out Halloween, there was a house with all those unmistakable electric candles in the windows. Made me wonder if there was some rivalry between the two neighbors.

I can tell you what some of these folks are doing, but a.) this doesn't apply to every house decorated early for Christmas, and b.) it's not catching on like you might think.
Basically, some extremely devout folks are so threatened by Halloween's popularity that they've decided to go on the offensive by throwing up these Christmas decorations as a statement. For the past few years there have been online communities who suggested this sort of action, and a few people have embraced the notion.
Now, some may be decorating for absent family members, i.e., military.
Some may be just nuts for Christmas, like we are for Halloween.
But some are these folks making a statement, "attacking the Devil's night", as it were.
Funny thing is, the anti-Halloween crowd is losing ground. Sure there are some communities that still try to cram harvest festivals down people's throats (despite the fact that we already have one, it's called Thanksgiving) and some churches still cling to the highly-lampooned Judgement House attractions, but overall the fear of Halloween is losing adherents in the evangelical scene.
Many christians are coming out on Halloween, refusing to hide from the holiday. Some are realizing that evil and death are not being embraced by their neighbors, but instead being mocked and satirized. The Devil is being made fun of, not adored.
Some see the holiday as a chance to greet strangers and get to know the local faces. Some hand out pamphlets and Jack Chick Tracts, but some merely hand out candy and invite visitors to their church.
No one is buying into the Satanic Panic like they did in the Eighties, and the fear and hatred of Halloween is turning off many sensible people, believers and otherwise.
Those who choose to attack the holiday with Christmas decorations are a tiny minority that are oftentimes considered a little unhinged even by their fellow believers.
I wouldn't worry. Your reaction is the same as many people, and it doesn't effectively spread the message. It's considered confusing at best, and few people are so 'full of the Spirit' that they want to look deranged to the community.

Waaaay too soon for Christmas decorations. That was very sweet of your hubby to do for you. About 2 days ago I saw my first Christmas commercial..it was for Sears. Guess who isn't getting any of my holiday money? I'm sick of seeing Christmas mixed in with Halloween at the stores also, like I'm not gonna notice Santa by a Reaper. It really puts me in a bad mood. Can't we just attack 1 holiday at a time?
