Today on my way home I noticed a house with a pumpkin in the window & a sign in the yard that said 79 days until Christmas.

Just a small quibble here but I see this all the time. There are many, many denominations of Christians. To lump all Christians as "they are refusing to hide from the holiday..." infers that all Christian beliefs are against Halloween. Not. true. at. all.
In fact, I would say most Christians and their churches love Halloween. There are a few denominations that have rallied against it but they are the smallest of small minorities. Here's a surprising fact, I knew of a small sect of Wiccans who are passionately against dressing for Halloween: School District Bans Halloween | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | News Archive

Wow, that's crazy. I could understand putting lights out in the warmer weather, but full-on decorating & light up, that's just nuts.
I have heard of that decorating against Halloween (Devil's) Night, but I don't see much of it here (happily).Haunt to Live ... Live to Haunt

I would have to agree with that. A few years back Halloween fell on a Wednesday and the preacher at a local church was able to convince the city to hold TOTing on Tuesday instead because he wanted the church kids to be able to go TOTing too. I wasn't particularly happy with the change, since obviously it wasn't Halloween. Seems like it would have been easier to have their church session on Tuesday or Thursday rather than change TOTing times.

X-mas stuff on peoples homes doesn't bother me much.
Not as much as wreaths and X-mas decor appearing in stores 2-3 weeks and more before Halloween.
If people want to set up their X-mas stuff early, good for them.
Just don't put the stuff out in stores until after Halloween.
If they don't want to surrender their "X-mas spirit building" then I would like to start seeing Halloween decor in late July and early August....somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.
And the best advice you may ever get is never to go out…at night.

Don't even get me started on this crap -
If we didn't have laws in place to protect these nit-wits...
I learned that every man needs a woman,
who understands without question,
when he wakes up in the night...
screaming
