I just made some killer baked macaroni and cheese. Not the kind made with american cheese..or velveeta cheese....Oh no, this was the baked kind with three different types of oozing, oh so delicious cheese...and white sauce I'm in cheese heaven! Its one of my favorite comfort foods. I only make it once or twice a year because 1) its soooooooo fattening and 2) cheddar cheeses are difficult to come by here in holland. Another favorite comfort food is chicken and dumplings! I dont make that much either cause my drop dumplings just dont turn out well without bisquick

So, what are YOUR favorite comfort foods? The things that make you go ummmmm....ahhhhh.

As a lactose intolerant person, I think I'm going to be ill just reading about all that yummy cheese! (cheese being a favorite food prior to becoming lactose intolerant)

    Mine lately is "Pirate chicken".

I laughed so hard at the commercial, I just HAD to find the stuff.

YouTube - Buccaneer Blends BBQ Sauce TV Commercial

"Sticky Rum" is my favorite variety, though to be fair, "Fra Diavlo" is not available locally, so haven't tried it. Just spread a bit over some chicken and broil for 5 min. Simple, easy, yummy, serve with rice. It's been a staple since first discovering a year ago.

MsMeeple there is a trick to dumplings- don't peek!! I just can't do bisquick dumplings, I must make them from scratch and they turn out divine, but if I accidentally peek too soon, poof! they're gone.

Definitely one of my favorite comfort foods. I also love kielbasa and cabbage stew *drool* served over a mound of mashed potatoes.

Mine is mince and dumplings. Not southern dumplings - it's completely different. It's a British thing. I grew up on it so I suppose that's why it's a comfort food.

Mmmmmmmm - I'm thinking I may need to make that for dinner.........
Oh look, another glorious morning. Makes me SICK!

Wow am I boring in the comfort food category.

Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. (but you have to make the loaf with half beef or ground turkey and half with sage seasoned sausage). mmmmmmm.

Green beans cooked forever (at LEAST 8 hours) with a hamhock.

Homemade white gravy (sausage/milk/sawmill whatever you call it) and biscuits.

oh, and mac and cheese too

(dang it, now I want all of that....)

Sorry Unorthodox....didn't mean to make you ill and that was one funny commercial!

Ok, stranger you need to hand over that recipe then!
Black rose what's the difference between the southern ones and the english ones? Maybe I'll like those better! Oh wait, probably not a good idea then lol
Frankie's Girl...my mother used to just call it good ole grease gravy lol LOVE THAT too! Breakfast sausage is also not available here but I did try making it for country fried steaks. Big disaster. I need a Cracker Barrel

You guys are killing me with those recipes, they all sound soooo good! I can't peg down any specific comfort food but that mac and cheese you mentioned earlier Meeple is right up my alley. I absolutely love any pasta when it has loads of cheese on it...lasagna, fettuccine, macaroni, ziti...the list goes on and on!!!

Oh man...I'm supposed to be on a diet here!!! I LOVE chicken pot pie, meatloaf with cream cheese mashed potatoes, homemade vegetable beef soup, chicken noodle soup, and knoephla soup. I guess I like homemade soup...? Beef stroganoff is one of my faves, pretty much anything with a sour cream gravy is fine by me!

    With apologies to UnOrthodOx...

What about a regular old grilled cheese sandwich (cut into triangles) and a hot bowl of tomato soup?

(love making grilled cheese sandwiches with munster and colby jack melted together )
