OK I don't know how things are by you guys and girls but here in the Detroit area Halloween is dying and it is annoying the hell out of me. There is not that many trick-o-treaters anymore and of the ones that are left they wear street clothing claiming hardcore rapper or some crap like that, If you like me this is just annoying not only that but not that many people seem to be doing there houses up anymore, I believe it is due to that trunk-n-treat that the city dose for a so called safe Halloween even though they do it like a week or 2 before Halloween is even here. Not only that but that 6/7 pm curfew they put into effect is also annoying. I remember when I was a kid everyone did there house up with something and there would always be tons of candy and lots of stuff to see and this was in the middle of Detroit and I was a little white kid and nothing bad ever happened so what the hell happened? Why did everyone become so scared of Halloween? Hell if they should be scared of anything here it should be Devil's Night when people light half the city on fire NOT Halloween!
well feel free to leave your thoughts on this

For what it's worth, Halloween is doing pretty well where I live.
I will say, I understand your point of view on this, and in your area, it may be the case.
The church / mall sponsered "trunk or treat" or mall Halloween's are becoming more and more frequent, and if you have a tight curfew in your area, that's going to cut into it as well.
Something to consider, and this might give a little hope, is that areas tend to cycle through kids that are of ToT'ing age...the little ones grow up, stop doing the ToT, so there's less and less each year.
But, eventually, couples move out, and families move in with new little kids, and the cycle starts again for a number of years. You might be experiencing a low point in the cycle right now - it may get better in a few years.
I say stick with your Halloween plans and traditions - if you are the ONLY house on the block that's a scary place to get candy, every kid in the area will want to come to your place.
That, and every kid will remember your place for the rest of the year, and talk about it - they'll look forward to the next year, hoping you do it all over again.Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...
2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

I hear it gets bad in Detroit.I have never been there so I do not know.I am lucky as my hood is pretty good.Just some punks to deal with.
Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

Sadly it is basically to that point, most the people around me only put up them nasty cute blow up Halloween stuff (thats another thing that annoys me) we did have a guy around who spent at lest $600 a year on Halloween but his wife made him stop Halloween all together and that really killed things in my area because it left me the only one who tries to go all out on Halloween
It is not as bad in Detroit as the rest of the world thinks lol Hell the world still thinks Detroit is the murder capital lol
