I'm thinking about it but so far nothing I've heard or read is convincing me to make the jump over to blu-ray.

YES!! We got a Blue-ray for the family for Xmas last year -- it was a great purchase! Not only do the Blue-Ray movies look fantastic, but all of our DVD movies look better, too!!
I bought a Panasonic and I absolutely love it. No complaints -- except that it is a little slow sometimes when you put in a new Blue-Ray, or when you want to eject the disc.

I haven't gone with Blue-ray yet, but I'll agree with loving a hi-def picture compared to a standard definition picture.
I get dozens and dozens of hi-def channels, and the few times I watch TV, it's always on the hi-def.
Looking at a standard definition image now, after becoming used to hi-def, is like watching TV through frosted glass - the image just seems fuzzy.
Didn't Blue-ray win the format wars?
So, everyone will be writing to that format anyway, won't they?Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...
2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

I still have laser discs! LOL Its all a conspiracy. They can sell you anything they want you to have. This technology is 10 years old or more. Its been put on a shelf for years as they were charging us all out the nose for video cassettes. They pull it off a shelf dust it off then say this is all new technology. And this is what you need. Then we all stand in line again to pay 300 to 400 dollars for this new technology. Hell you can't even find video cassettes anymore. And dvds are getting so cheap its crazy.

BINGO!! If they convince you its better then it is right? I cannot tell the differnce between HD though..I cant count the number of times i have made someone angry b/c i couldnt see the difference. They try and convince themselves that the money was spent well when it wasnt. Honesty i cant tell the difference.
BTW i still have laser disc also and still watch

I loved LaserDiscs. My father has had a player for twenty years. It's beautiful quality and great sound. My biggest problem with them was that you could only fit about an hour per side. That, and the size was a big ackward (but you could make the same arguement for LPs.
I do understand the frustration, though. It seems every couple of years, something bigger and better comes out. Somethind with higher definition, greater sound, more memory, or a more compact size. Boombox to walkman to discman to iPod. Things just keep getting smaller and storing more.
I can only imagine what my kids will be playing with when they have kids.
(hmm . . . I guess I mean I can only imagine what my grandchildren will beplaying with!! Yikes, that's a scary thought!!)

When my friends got a big tv and piped HD picture into their home, I coundn't see the difference either. I thought they were crazy for spending the money and didn't think I would ever "switch over". Even when I would go into Costco and look at all the flatscreens they have on display, I had a hard time seeing the difference.
Then I went out and got one. I had to get a new tv because our old 32" tube tv died. I thought, well, what the hell, I'll get a nice, light-weight flatscreen tv. So I got a good deal and brought one home. I plugged it into our basic cable and ran the "Search For Channels" start-up. As soon as it had finished, we had all our original channels PLUS we had all these new HD channels. For instance, NBC is channel 5, but NBC HD is channel 5.1.
Being able to see the difference between regular and HD with the the click of a button was really eye-opening. I couldn't believe the difference, it was incredible. Now I'm an HD junkie. I can't watch my favorite shows in the "old" format anymore. And what I really like is that I didn't have to upgrade my cable at all.
