I'm looking at some 97, 98 and 99 Saabs. Wonder if anyone has any experience owning them. Thanks.

We owned one for several years. Bought a 900 new in 1989 and kept it for close to 11 years, which ended up being 5 years too long. Nice car in the beginning. Fun to drive and safe. Repairs were a nightmare and it seemed after about 5 years there was always something going wrong with it and they are EXPENSIVE to repair! They're a quirky litte car. Perhaps the later models were better and maybe being bought out by GM brought about improvements. After 110K miles, we pretty much had to junk it. Rusting badly and essentially falling apart. I've never looked at another one but some folks love them in spite of their inherent problems.

Thanks. I know about expensive repairs. I had a BMW a few years back. The problem these days is that the practical economical cars are getting more expensive. People want 5 grand for a 10 year old nissan with 130K miles on it.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to buy an older ford escort. Not very sexy, but at least the repair costs won't kill me.
