Just wonder if I'm the only one here that wishes doctors would recommend something other than an RX item for EVERY situation? We have a 7 month old son, and he's already been prescribed antibiotics twice for things I think he would have been okay without... the next time, I will have to put my foot down and ask if it's really necessary.

Amazing how we lived for thousands of years, and the body did the fighting vs. most bugs. Now, we just prescribe something and keep having to make the drugs stronger and stronger.

Spoke to FOUR different LPNs, PAs and DRs and got FOUR different scenarios for the same issue. He's been couging, congested... just LIKE ME. A had a viral cold. Antibiotics don't help. We have the same bug, and they are treating it like he has something else. Ugh, the obvious. One says don't use expectorant. One says do. Next one says don't. Next one says do. And so on. These are from the same flippin' office!

I digress. Happy Halloween.

PS - welcome to national healthcare. If you don't like having to see PAs and LPNs when you should see a Dr.... welcome to what we'll get when 305 million people have access to the system.

LOL, wilbret you gave me a chuckle. In my experience, most people (including parents) want an antibiotic when they don't really need one. We spend half our life in the ED explaining to people why a prescription would be a waste of money!! I commend you for recognizing that most upper respiratory infections are viral, and the only thing we can apply is symptom relief and what one of my MD buddies calls "tincture of time"!!

but the pharmaceutical companies are making these drugs and go to the doctors saying 'hey guys these drugs are great for people' but a lot of companies do this so some companies say to the docs 'hey if you prescribe this drug more we'll get you some extra walking around money' and some docs go for it.

ask them about alternative treatments and non brand medications, heck insist upon it, it will probably be better on you if you do.

the same thing is happening with psychiatrists, they just listen for 15min and write a scrip.
they don't consider that a change is possible through things like exercise, diet change, scenery change, or just plain venting.

now i understand why i don't trust the medical system sometimes ...

I am chopping at the bit. I want to throw my soapbox out and stand on top of it. But I won't cause I am considered crazy when I get going on this topic. ( although some people that called my crazy a few years ago...are coming around. )
Conspircy.... "They spray us ( American, Canada, Europe, Aust. & ....) on a regular bases.
The URI....so common, never completely goes away. Associated with chronic fatigue syndrome. Mycoplasma virus. ( also Gulf War syndrome...that has spread from Vets being innoculated and sprayed.) General populations - physicians included aren't privy to what they are doing to us on a daily bases....Physicians at best can only diagnosis and treat patients according to the information that is assimulated. They are only educated guessers.
Their education is the pharaseuctial companies and insurance companies.
Look over your head. Those trails you see in the sky - that we are told are contrails are chemtrails ( making us sick. and tired....or weather modifications- )
Medications.....HUM....They are designed to weaken our immune system. They will certainly go after the children and older people. ( Depopulation...Our world cannot sustain the amount of people we have in it now, therefore designs to depopluated with virus, plaugues etc. Also those that are sick are easier to be controlled or "lead" or "contained" when and if necessary.....Arrrrrgh.

But I do sympathize with you.....and there is alot of information on the web....YOU ARE NOT
ALONE in feeling this way....AND YOU ARE CORRECT where your mindset is taking you.
