I don't usually say this on message boards but seriously WTF???!! This film is 98 days from release and they aren't releasing it?? It just got pushed to July 2009. I can't tell you how pissed I am at WB right now. I don't know what the hell they think they are doing but I think every one of them should be fired.

I'm pretty upset too, but the reason they are doing it is they think they'll make more money opening in the summer. This way it'll be one of the summer Blockbusters.
I just hope it doesn't push back the 2 7th installments.
Purely and simply evil

I read that too, and this is nothing against you at all, but that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. It's the Half Blood Prince. This is one everyone and their brother are waiting for, do they honestly think it's not going to make any money if they release it in 90 days? Who are they kidding??????!! It'll be interesting to see what happens with all the marketing. I'm sure a lot of companies were counting on Harry Potter sales for Christmas.

What sort of backlash would you expect? For instance, will you not go see the movie now, whenever it finally does open?
I can see people protesting, sending letters and organizing campaigns. Which will fire up the internet (in progress) and garner media coverage. Thereby pushing Harry to the top of the headlines again, and maintaining there for awhile. Then, when the movie finally does come out, the buzz will be about "The controversial new Harry Potter movie...protests erupted after the studio unexpectedly delayed...blah blah blah" creating even MORE hype. Not that it'd be needed -- HP movies always generate buzz (like the books did) -- but if you can garner more of the spotlight...
Don't think it is stupid at all. Disappointing, sleazy, underhanded, yes -- but not stupid.
Then again, I could just be suspicious and cynical
On the micro side, for myself there's a silver lining...my daughter will be 1 1/2 then, and Mrs. Auditor and I will feel much more comfortable leaving her with a sitter for the extended time you need to invest in one of these films...so we could actually see it in the theater. Still stinks for everone else.a plague on both your houses

A backlash doesn't necessarily have to come from the public. There's a lot of Half Blood Prince licensees that were counting on Christmas sales of Harry Potter merchandise I'm sure. WB is a hassle for companies to deal with to start with and the approval process takes forever and I'm sure people were ready to start rolling out merchandise in the next couple months. Now they have to sit on it for a year and miss out on holiday profits. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. It's a bit scary to me because I don't want WB pissing off the collectible companies more than they already do because they hold the license to the Wizard of Oz. A big loss on holiday sales could make a company think twice about dealing with WB in the future. Not good.
Now I just read on Fox news that the delay was because Dan Radcliffe is about to get butt nekkid in Equus on Broadway. I'd be more inclined to believe that than a major corporation putting off a HUGE money making opportunity now. Since when does anyone wait a year to try to reap a profit? If that is the reason, they should have made the date change a looooooooooooong time ago because it's been known since he did the show in England that he was coming to do it here. That aside, I might even have a little respect for WB for wanting to keep the image of Harry Potter pure. Not unlike some people who let their female teen stars act like little hootchies. *coughDisneycough*
