We had planned on going to Roatan but, chose Bonaire instead. How was it? We wanted to go zip lining in the jungle, diving and rafting down the rivers.

    Hey Growler--

We had a few hours in Roatan on a cruise, so it's not like we got to see much. We were supposed to go snorkeling on the reefs but it was way choppy and we'd have been ground to hamburger. We ended up hanging out on the beach at a resort for a few hours and then heading back to the port area. The bus ride through the mountains was AWESOME and the water was as clear as I've ever seen. The port (enough room for one cruise ship) was well-policed and well-guarded, I suppose to make tourists feel secure? I regret not getting to see the reefs; they're supposed to be just gorgeous.

I am really looking forward to seeing Tulum. DH and I are going to Cancun for a long weekend in early Oct, and we're taking a daytrip to Tulum and perhaps one of the touristy cave/river sites (Xcaret or XelHa). Woohoo!

Jeezus H, you people have been a lot of places! My vacation list is meager but here it is:

Gatlinburg, TN / Cherokee, NC (too many times to count) - Ripley's Aquarium is a must see

Cincinnati, OH (again, too many times to count) - nice zoo and, of course, King's Island is awesome!

Orlando - I would love to go back to Disney, husband's never been

Myrtle Beach - worst. trip. ever.

Portland, OR - what a clean city! I'd love to go back and spend some more time sight seeing.

Topsail Island, NC - I would go back any time (and I don't much care for the beach!). It's near Camp Lejune so all the marines go there to relax...they keep it very clean. Very peaceful, only chain businesses on the island (circa 2004, at least) were a Wings and a Hardees.

St. Louis - really enjoyed this city. A lot of free stuff to do but if you're adventureous don't miss City Museum! I want to buy it and have it all to myself! It's like McDonald's playplace that adults are welcome to play on (they even have a bar!) and pretty much everything is made from old junk. Check out the website http://www.citymuseum.org/

Cape Hatteras, NC - very nice beach spot (loved all the pirate stuff!) but took forever to drive to! Hopped over and visited Ocracoke Island while we were there...it's a must see for Blackbeard fans.

Williamsburg, VA - I love this place! If history is your thing you should definitely check it out. I went to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Busch Gardens was a blast too!

Basye, VA - gorgeous mountain spot (don't know about the skiing since I'm always there off season). I have a time share here and go every other year. Not great for kids (unless they're into historical things) but there are lots of Civil War sites to visit within an hour drive.

Yeah, Laurie. I love to travel. I can't stand to sit still, so even just seeing sights around where I live is what I like to do. We are going to the Atlanta Zoo today...temps in the 80s. Whoo hoo!

(we go to the Aquarium and Zoo in every city we visit (or live).)

Seattle Aquarium & zoo, San Diego Aquarium, Zoo and Sea World, Orlando Sea World, Key Largo Theater of the Sea, North Carolina Aquariums, Albany GA Flint Riverquarium (must see!), Key West Butterfly house, Callaway Gardens, etc etc... I guess it's our thing.

Ive never vacationed anywhere in the states, but Ive vacationed in White Rock B.C.,and 2 years ago On Vancouver Island and Calgary and spent some time on Christian Island in Georgian Bay. Driving across country you see some beautiful places like Whistler Mountian ,Lake Louise and White Lake On. I'd like to go east someday.

Hey Rikki...I LOVE the citymuseum in ST. Louis. We go down there a couple of times a year. My sister lives there and it's only an hour away. That place it truely amazing. The fact that you can climb up and outside of the building, through old school buses and airplanes...the 3 story slide, the 6 story jungle in the back you can climb up and down... this place is a must see.

I also agree with you about Myrtle Beach... horrible. I spent 6 years in N.C. in the Marines, and went to Cape Hattaras, Cape Fear Atlantic Beach (beautiful). We went to Myrtle Beach once...and regretted it.

Gatliniburg's Ripley's Aquarium was great too... It's comparable to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago (although I think Shedd just barely edges it out)

I'm a big American History buff...I would love to go to Jamestown, Williamsburg, and all those old original colonies. I would LOVE to go to DC and the Smithsonian, The Marine Corps Museum, and such...

    maybe next year...

CMGhost, I would love to live that close to City Museum! I would be there at least once a month...I'm just a big kid. Ever been in the aquarium there? I didn't know if it was worth the extra cost. They have condos there now; I want one soooooo bad. I'd continue to live in KY but would be able to go to CM whenever I wanted and not have to worry with a hotel!

DC is definitely on my short list. I've heard that you need to go for at least a week and even then you won't get to do everything. Sounds like it needs to be a series of trips.
