I gotta vent here....so, I clean houses on the side for some extra cash, and one of them is a huge farmhouse. On occasion, I've seen a couple mice in this house, and suggested to the owners maybe they should set traps.

I KNOW the owners have the funds for said traps, in fact they could probably buy 20 mouse trap making factories, but they won't spend money on this kinda thing (or the 1947 vacuum I use...that's how the wealthy stay wealthy, I reckon...I digress...)

SO, last week, I spotted their cat roaming the house with a mouse she was toying with--wouldn't let go of it. Quite the huntress. I thought, 'I'm not getting that, just let them see it..maybe they'll get some traps if they have to deal with it,' you know?

Today, there's a note for me. With a box of cookies (at first I thought, 'how nice.') Note says, 'Would you please bleach the tub downstairs? We think the cat caught a mouse in there..thank you so much!' I'm thinking, 'Man, are you saying they let that mouse carcass sit in the tub for a week?'

But when I go to investigate, there's not a whole carcass as much as there are PARTS of it. EVERYWHERE. I'm talkin' C.S.I. crime scene. There were chunks of mouse and fur and blood spatter (YEP!) ALL OVER THAT TUB. That had sat there for a week. (Yes I did triple-ply my cleaning gloves.)

All I can think after this ordeal is, I shoulda got that damn mouse from the cat. AND, why in the world would I think a box of cookies is more appetizing than say, a $40 tip after having to deal with a murder cleanup??

I just needed to get that off my chest.

Why buy mouse traps when they have an assassin-cat?

I can see why, to them, the idea of mouse traps is obsolete.... but they fail to understand the mess that leaves that YOU have to clean up. I guess they're thinking that's why they pay you? Seems a little unfair for you...

Yeah, seemed pretty unfair to me too, especially during a visit that took me roughly 6 hours to complete anyway after cleaning up from guests that occupied 4 bedrooms for a few days...and having to deal with washing thick sheets and towels in a dryer who's door won't stay closed so I have to prop it shut with a wood plank and a step ladder to keep it operating...even then, big loads will pop it open......I don't know.....I seem to remember mouse guts not being on my contract.

Bleh...I'm used to dealing with mouse chunks...but then, it is because of MY huntress cat, and fairly fresh...not someone else's with a kill that they just let...ferment...

Remember this when it comes time to renew your contract...and double your price...

...and you put in a special stipulation that if in the future your awesome cleaning talents are requested to clean up of a murder scene, a fee of $50 will be paid in full up front at the time of request.

Ugh, I feel for ya. Had to clean up bird remains after my late cat Addie got hold of one in the backyard. And to have given a pack of cookies, gah...

Yep, I will definitely make use of y'all's suggestions...double the price AND $50 murder scene tips up front for next year's contract, hehehe...Hey, I say if they don't like that they can get another housekeeper--but I wish them luck finding one that will do as good a job.

    Laurie,

That was terrible of them! People never cease to amaze me.

I give you credit. I would've left a note with the cookies. "I don't clean up after remains. Sorry"

Really! Some people. (I better clarify....the home owners not you!)
