Getting close to that time of the year to start thinking of vacations. Working in a coal mine, I don't get much opportunity to get prime vacation slots, and this year I got a pretty good slot... June 26 thru July 6. My kids are old enough to start really enjoying vacations. They are 5 and 7 now. We went local last year. Chicago and St. Louis, and they did excellent.

Wanting to stretch our wings and do some away time. I think we're starting off by heading to Atlanta Motor Speedway for Dukefest '08 (Yes I'm a Dukes Of Hazzard fan...just the car not the whole show) finally get to ride in a General Lee.

Then we're heading to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum and attractions, then were heading to the Atlantic Ocean, probably through North Carolina.

Anyone ever been to Gatlinburg? Where do you all plan to go for vacation?

Typically we go to the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, IA. It's THE sprint car races of the year.

Last year we went to Sturgis, SD for bike week. Who knows what we will do this year. We do have a long weekend planned to go ATV riding in the Iron Range of nothern Minnesota sometime in the next few weeks. Wish I could plan which weekend, but the weather around here this time of year is an anything goes type of thing.

We stay in the stae, and do alot of camping. We always camp in campgrounds that are on Lake Michigan, so even though I don't do the lay out and bake thing, I love walking on the beach. One park has lots of wooded trails and sand dunes to hike on. It is a beautiful place. That's basically pretty much it camping, but that's ok, I love it.
I have flying monkeys- and I'm not afraid to use them!

We went to Gatlinburg 3 years ago and LOVED it ! We rented a cabin in the mountains !! It was the BEST vacation !!! Last year we went to NC to the outerbanks Islands. Loved that even more ! If you want bustling tourist thing then Gatlinberg is your thing. If not then the outerbanks is better.

This year we're going to the Florida Keys !! Yippee !! If anyone is going.... we're going 2nd and 3rd week in June !!!

Jackie, I think you've said that before about Knoxville speedway.... thats only about 40 miles from me !!!

Bethene, We've been talking about going your way one of these years.... I think my husband would love it.... He's a sailing nut !!! Thought to charter a boat for a cruise would be right up his alley !

If I build it, will they come ?

Oh, this question just reminded me... we're going to Disney World this fall after all the kids (not ours because we don't have any) go back to school. Disney World is such a happy place, but the three attractions that I crave to go to are Soarin', Tower of Terror, and of course The Haunted Mansion. I love the haunted mansion and in late September, you can ride it like 6 times in an hour. There's absolutely no waiting time. Speaking of waiting, I can't!

On Tuesday I'll be boarding a flight at DIA to florida for a week. :-) I never really get vaction time and this is my first paid one. 40 hours at 10 bucks an hour for not working at all. Heck yes. Anyways I hope everyone has a safe, fun and relaxing vaction. And if anyone lives down near Tampa I'll be there. We should hang out for a little while. :-)
Sign up is now over for the 2008 secret reaper. Thanks to all who are playing this year! It will be a ton of fun. Don't forget to check out the list on March 27th at:

Not sure what we'll do... but I'll be the first to admit we are spoiled. We have two planned beach trips to the Gulf Coast, but we'll go several weekends to the in-laws condos.

We normally do a lot of day trips to the lake and some camping when it's not too hot. But this year we may be too far away to do any day trips

We usually take a trip to Orlando (where we get into Disney free thanks to friends and family!), but summer in Orlando SUCKS.

Last year we went to Key West, the year before back to Seattle, San Diego, etc... but those are out of the picture for a while! Word of Advice, don't do Key West after March unless you can take the heat. We still had fun...but you'll melt. Seattle is my ideal place to be during the summer.

I forget how lucky we are to be so close to the ocean and gulf here. You will enjoy North Carolina, just don't be shocked at how busy it might be at peak season.

Have fun and make memories... any trip can be fun. I went with my family to Chattanooga and loved it. Vertical train, train museum, rock city, lookout mountain, etc...
