I KNOW there are some folks that read Stephen King around here--might already be a thread about it, but there are hundreds I've yet to discover...I just bought Duma Key, but haven't read it yet. Actually, I've been kinda disappointed that he hasn't kept his vintage style for the past several novels, but I keep buying them all like the junkie I am....is there anyone who wouldn't mind sharing the title of their favorite King story?

LaurieS, I love Stephen King, haven't read the new one yet, but I think I have read all of the others. As for favorite, I don't know. Of the newer ones I liked The Cell( I think it was called that.) Made you think, which alot of his do.
I also like the Stand alot, as well as the whole wastland/gunslinger series. I swear, that man could write a phone book and hook you in, he has such great characters, and stories, you feel apart of it right away and can't put it down. " It" is also great. If I keep thinking, I am just going to keep going, oh yeah, that was great, over and over again. Right now, on a book on CD, I have "the stationary bike," so far, it's good. He brings the people in his books/stories to life, they seem like real people. I think more movies, mini series have been made form his books and stories than any one else I can think of. Love him!I have flying monkeys- and I'm not afraid to use them!

I know what you mean, bethene, I love him too.
To pick one favorite would be hard...of his classics I believe it's 'Salem's Lot' for me...but I also LOVE 'The Regulators' and 'Desperation'. I have all of his works in hardback except the Dark Tower series. BY FAR, my favorite short story that he wrote as Richard Bachman is 'The Long Walk'. I LOVE that story. Still trying to get my husband to read it, but he's not the King fan that I am.

IT and desperation were my favs but IT was the one that I had to actually put down. Really got to me and desperation still gets to me every time I drive through the desert. I haven't read as much of his newer stuff seams like there's never time for a long read. I don't know about you but when I pick up a good book, I don't want to stop till it's finished.

Use to read his books all the time. But the last 5 years they have all sucked. He lost his style.
The best one he's ever written was "The Shinning"Sign up is now over for the 2008 secret reaper. Thanks to all who are playing this year! It will be a ton of fun. Don't forget to check out the list on March 27th at:

My sister is a SKemer (Steven King Fans) and has All of his books, First edition, most signed. She also travels to see him in differnet things often.
Such as - He was given a Poe award from the mystery writers assocatiation last year in NY.
Two years ago he did a reading in NY with John Irving and J.K Rowlings they called it Harry Carrie and Garp.
But the one I think is the Coolist (Maybe because I went to this one) in 2001 Halloween (with a full Moon) he played in Chicago with the 'Rock Bottom Remainders' The band he is in with Matt Groening, Dave Barry, Mitch Albom, Scott Turow, Ridley Pearson, Amy Tan etc...
Sad to say I don't read as often as I use to, but I loved his old stuff!Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)

Whoa, your sister is mighty lucky!! Yeah, I really love his old stuff too, quite partial to it....I don't have time to read anymore either except at bedtime--but I MAKE time for it then. ;-)
