I was only half listening to the 11:00 news tonight when I caught something on the Economic Stimulus Package signed by the President that I had not heard about before. According to the report filed by Portland, Oregon News Channel 8 (link below), " .....This is not exactly free money though. Think of it more like a forward. The money we will be getting is money we would have gotten back on a future tax return. Pending a change in administration, you can likely expect a smaller 2009 tax return."

I didn't see that detail outlined on any official releases from Washington D.C., or as we call it at home, the "other" Washington. I am passing this information along because it may affect your decision about how you want to spend (or if you want to spend) your rebate.

Hadn't heard that either but wouldn't surprise me a bit. Seems that same thing happened with the last "rebate" we got !
And don't forget, you'll be paying taxes on that chunk a change !!!

If I build it, will they come ?

Getting these tax rebates is like getting mugged and then having the mugger give you back 10 bucks so you can take a cab home. Gee, Thanks. Don't get me started.

John, maybe you want to use some of that "rebate" money to pay for blood pressure medication that isn't covered by your health care plan, "if you even have a health care plan". Access to affordable health care, and in some cases any health care, is a topic that pushes my hot button.

People always talk about affordable health care.
If the government could come up with quality, affordable healthcare then that would be impressive.
Showing numbers of people who get refused healthcare is more of a measure than the number of people not being covered by healthcare.
The problem is that in order to give everyone affordable healthcare, it will have to come way down in price therefore way down in quality.
Another problem I have is abuse. You give it away and people will abuse the hell out of it.
Maybe waiting 6 months for an MRI or being pushed off the donor list because you're over 50 appeals to people with no healthcare, but to the 80 something percent of people who have healthcare, it doesn't look pretty.

Why is I'm always feeling like I'm being robbed? Let see I get a 'rebate' that I will end up paying back, hmmm...sounds like something a Republican would love! Thats worse then "tax and spend" at least thats honest robbery!

john affordable heath care is simple take the profit motive out of it, ie kill the insurance companies. If you want to know why medical care is so expensive ask the United Heathcare CEO who pocketed 124 million bucks of your and mine money last year, may I repeat 1-2-4 MILLION!

Spookzilla, doesn't that kind of feel like paying your future taxes with a credit card?

True but what do I care, my dear Madame? I will be dust in the wind when the bill comes due and then our children and grandchildren will pay the bill! I wonder how they will enjoy their holiday for Chairman Mao and celebrating May day, at least maybe they will have the day off? Maybe I should have thank you Prez Bush stenciled on my tombstone? You think?

    The rebate is a joke.
"Earned income tax credits" are a joke.

In general, anything related to a tax on income is a joke. How is that logical? Seems like a tax on what I use and consume would be more logical.
