So I spent today gathering my tax info. I am so sick of this crap, it is such a waste of time. There has to be a better way. Flat tax, fair tax, whatever. Just don't make me fill out forms.

    1. I pay tax on what I earn. If I earn more, I値l pay disproportionately more.
    2. If I pay too much, I値l get a refund.
    3. But I値l pay tax on that refund next year.
    4. If I work in more than one state, I get to file there too!
    5. I pay property tax on what I own.
    6. But I値l get a deduction if I don稚 actually own (mortgage interest).
    7. I pay taxes based on how much my savings earn.
    8. I pay sales tax on what I buy.
    9. I pay tax to own a car.
    10. I pay a tax to own a boat.
    11. I pay a tax to own the trailer the boat sits on.
    12. I pay a tax to own the trailer I haul my lawnmower on.
    13. I pay about as much per gallon of gas in tax as I do for actual gas.
    14. Yet I still pay tolls on public roads.
    15. I pay various other version of exorbitant tax like lodging and travel taxes.
    16. I pay a tax if I receive a large gift.
    17. I pay a tax if I receive winnings.
    18. I pay a tax if I receive ANYTHING of value. FREE trip? Better report it, because you better believe that the company submitted a 1099.
    19. I pay a tax if a die with too much money.
    20. I pay hidden taxes because my employer, their suppliers and their suppliers and so on have ALL faced as many layers of tax as I have.
    21. I pay taxes on the goddamn software I use to prepare my taxes.
    22. But I get a credit for the amount I spent preparing taxes.
    23. I can get a deduction for the cost of education, but if I get more education my income goes up, increasing the amount of taxes I pay.

I'm feeling your pain right now Wilbret. I own two businesses and my husband also contracts for a firearms school so between the first of the year and April 15th taxes are all I get to think about. At least in your list of things you're getting refunds in there! I kissed that goodbye with the first dollar my business made.

    Well said Wilbret!!!
And if the "Economy stimulous package rebate" happens, we'll pay taxes on that too!
I don't want to just scare them... I want to mess them up for life!

Oh yeah, since my dad is in the hospital right now, we get to take care of the taxes / payroll for his businesses too.

    So much damn paperwork!!

There has to be a better way.

True, spookineer, and you'll also have to pay it back in one way or another, nothing is for free.

Little "new deductions are good" Spookzilla but it will be a lot more beneficial "next year". I feel your pain Wilbret! We had January and March babies and no maternity insurance (ouch).

We found that when we lost all of our deductions, except for the mortgage, it was actually more cost effective for me to "quit" work....except for that nasty self-pay insurance part I guess I should move to New Zealand and live with my son. They have national insurance coverage there.
