Thanks DEAR!

In between my shifts this weekend we watched a RENTAL DVD-- "Wrong Turn" (Eliza Dusku, for all you Buffy fans) Slasher movie, following the usual Horror movie rules, LMAO, bound to be put in the genre of Decent B Horror Movies.

Lots of Gore, lots of Blood and a great memory of my all time FAVORITE disgusting X-Files ep of the "Inbred Family"

All my friends have seen it and rave about it. Especially Drac's "demonic Ewoks" as they put it. I just want to see the Wolf Man, after all he is the best Horror character out there .

BTW: SamanthaS, how much is the DVD box set? I was planning on buying it when i got the $$$$. And do they have the first movies on them (ie. "Dracula") or just the sequels and bonus stuff? I heard they just have sequels and extras.

As far as I know they are being sold as three separate sets: Frankenstein, The Wolfman, and Dracula. Frankenstein includes five original films including Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, and House of Frankenstein. The Wolfman set includes four original films including The Wolfman, Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman, Werewolf of London and She-Wolf of London. The Dracula set also includes five original films. I don't have all the titles for those. Each collection also includes behind the scenes footage from Van Helsing and comments from Stephen Sommers about how he was inspired by the original films. Each set has different extras. I bought them at Target for $19.99 each and saw them at Tower Records for the same price. You might be able to find a lower price online somewhere. They are a good value for the price, and each also has a cool metal collector plate of Wolfman, Frankenstein or Dracula. [8D]

Creature and others who are interested...I just found out Amazon.com has the box set of all three monster collections for $55.99 and the set comes with miniature busts of all three monsters. It's called Universal's Legacy Collection. FYI the Dracula set has Dracula, Dracula's Daughter, Son of Dracula, House of Dracula and a Spanish version of Dracula.

From what I heard, you might want to buy that set from a local store, like Tower Record or Best Buy, etc. A lot of people have been complaining about how badly the set is packaged, discs are all scratched up an a couple of titles won't play at all.

When I get back from HauntCon, I am going to track down a a set for myself.

Okay,back to Van Helsing.I just saw it at 11:45a.m est.Today.My 12 year old daughter LOVED it,she said it was a great movie.I on the other hand thought it was okay.NOT great just okay.First I didn't know Van Helsing was Gabriel or as the Dracula put it...the left hand of God.Second of all Frankenstein(to me)looked like Milton the Monster(an old horror cartoon on tv).Thirdly I didn't think that female vampires were able to lay thousands of sacks of "unborn dead babies".The good part about the movie was that the girl gets killed by Hugh Jackman(who earlier got bitten by a wherewolf(?)No THERE Wolf(lol))saving our beloved monster killer from staying a maniacal furball.Again computer graphics tries to save the movie and does a pretty decent job.The sets were really good and pretty much alot of action.So bottom line was... for $23 which included (2)matinee tickets,(2)large drinks a medium size butter popcorn,(1)box of KitKats&(1)bag of twizlers....humm...I guess it was okay.If I gave away the main parts of the movie...sorry....just go see it for yourself.

I went and saw it last Saturday, I thought it was an unrealistic movie aside from the unreaslistic plotline and creatures.

Let me elaborate so that my previous statement makes sense...

They completely butchered the legends of vampires. What werewolf would work in the service of a vampire? Werewolves are supposed to be so much more powerful than that. The whole 'romance' thing was poorly placed in the movie, and the romantic one-liners were horrible. But the thing that disturbed me the most was the minimal amount of effort and thought that was put into the making of this film. There's one point where the woman draws her sword to fight off Dracula's minions, then she jumps onto a rope (without re-sheathing her sword) and the sword is magically back in her sheath, she promptly pulls it out again. Harry Potter couldn't have pulled off the types of 'slight magic' that I noticed in this film. Also, the type of technology, weaponry, and even some references to history that were made in this movie were completely inappropriate and unrealistic considering the time setting in which this movie was supposed to have taken place.

On the up side, the CGI was really awesome. Yay for computers! for making scares and horror ten times easier to create, effortless to replicate realism, and cheaper on actors, costumes, and makeup.
<note Sracasm>
CGI needs to stay in video games, graphics should be put to minimal use on the big screen. They're taking our jobs!

Horray!Horray!Horray for Dear-in-headlights!I could NOT have put it better myself.Our very own David Knoles(where ever he is)would probably say the same!CGI and other computer grahic companies may be the way of the future but it can NEVER take away from good old hands on creativity and imagination.
