Hi Halloween Guy...just checking in and seeing how you are handling being computerless at home...it must suck. But rest assured that we haven't forgotten you and I really, really miss your emails popping up on my screen every day. It is such a loss for me.

I will be putting together a package for you on Saturday and mailing it out on Monday, so be on the lookout...oh, and yes, everything in the package will be "blessed", if you know what I mean.

    Blessed be, my dear.

    Missing you...Di

Do we know what his itinerary is going to be? I might be able reccomend some places, depending on which route he takes.
Just for the record, I don't know if I've come across a bad Flying J truck stop in Kansas, Missouri, or Iowa. But I can't see him winding that far north. This might be a mission for some of our Texas people.
I must say I'm kind of excited for him.

Hi gang. In case you thought I'd lost my way, here I am to say, no. I've lost my mind not my way. Then again, that's happened so often over the years that I barely notice when it happens any longer.

Well, what Moongirl said was true. She read the entire thread to me and I DID get all teary eyed. It's totally bitchin knowing that everyone cares. And Di...thanks for creating the thread in the first place. That was sweet beyond words. And I'm looking forward to the package! She and I talked on the phone for a couple of hours Saturday night, and despite what she might tell you, she has the most delightful New England accent you've ever heard!

Oh by the way, while I'm on the road, I will be sending pictures from my Swiss Army knife cell phone to Ann -- moongirl -- so she'll post them for you guys. I'll be heading through the southwest, through Arizona and New Mexico into Texas. My favorite uncle - who actually taught me how to outline an idea into an actual story when I was about ten - lives in San Antonio, and I've always wanted to see the Alamo and the river walk. Besides, Uncle Rudy has the best wine cellar of anyone I've ever met, so likely as not I'll linger there for a bit. Same thing with New Orleans. It's been literally years since I've ambled down the streets of the Big Easy, which means it's been too damn long! Then, from there, it's on to Rat World, as Moon calls it, where I'll see what fortune has devined for me.

Not only does this sound like fun, but I'm negotiating with a couple of travel mags so maybe I'll sell my adventures and let the trip pay for itself. You never know.

By the way, here's a little moving story for you. I was getting rid of an old computer monitor when an old friend of mine suggested that we do something really creative with it. So we took it out onto Catalina Avenue and set it on top of the "Welcome to Redondo Beach" city sign set in the median. Well, most of the people passing mistook it for one of the new speeding cameras they like to use in California, so as we watched, as soon as the cars on Catalina got close enough to see the monitor on the sign, THEY ALL REDUCED SPEED! Now me and my pal were in hysterics about this, and we wondered how long it would be before someone caught on. That was Sunday night, and this afternoon the monitor is still on top of the sign and traffic is still slowing as they pass it. I haven't seen anything work this well since I was in college and put "Men" and "Women" signs over the two pay phones in the humanities building and watched gender based lines form for the phone. Of course, the "No talking" sign me and another friend put in the library elevator worked really well too. But I think the whole monitor thing is the best gag of this type to date.

Just wait till I have the entire country to play with! Hehehehehehehehe

    Hi David!
Got your email; my screen has been a bit lonely without you.

We are all so glad to hear from you. The trick with the monitor is a scream and I know that I, for one, would certainly fall for it!!!

Despite being somewhat embarassed about my Maine accent, I am tickled that you think it's "delightful". But, get this- I told people at work about how you giggled when I said "flowiz" (aka flowers)and they said "I don't get it"...just goes to show that I'll never escape being part of the local talent, lol.

The trip to New Orleans sounds like a good time waiting to happen, and please throw one back for me at Uncle Rudys, ok?

My work schedule may be changing the beginning of May- I will keep you posted. Don't want to miss any calls from the boyscout phone!

Well, gotta go...take care, blessed be, and remember to stop and smell the flowiz along the way...Di

Good luck on your journey David.
Funny thing is, Jessica and I were talking about New Orleans just yesterday, she has never been there, I've been there about seven or so times over the last 8? years.
When I was in grade school we had a speaker come to the school and explain how he traveled around the world on $80.oo!
His air fare was free for just the price of film he shot from his camera, he had worked out a deal to do this with the airline for an ad campaign or something like this, then when traveling across the desert he had purchased a few cartons of American cigerettes that he traded (like gold bars) to get from one place to another, and that's about all that I can remember from this , too many years and head injuries between then and now...
Once you are in New Orleans, if you could get a raft to float upstream, all the way up to Savanna, Illinois, I could drive the ten miles to Savanna to bring you to the Ravens Grin Inn!

    Hey David,

The monitor gag sound hilarious! I'm sure I would have also reduced speed seeing that thing there! Good that you can still post occasionally. Anyway, I just wanted to say "Hi" and let you know I'm thinking of you.
