Just curious as to what side everybody falls on. Personally, I'm a Lowe's man. But, I have never been in the Home Depot closest to my house, but that's purely because I have two Lowe's locations closer to my house. For those that do both please compare the two (prices, selection, customer service, etc). Curious to see if we can start a holy war here lol.

I prefer Lowe's over Home Depot, hands down.
Mainly because I also have two of them closer to me than Home Depot and I know where everything is in the store. (Well, most of the time...)
The Lowe's stores seem cleaner than all of the Home Depots I've been in. Also the employees are very helpful, too.

We go with Lowes 99% of the time. Home Depot only if we have to.
Although the Home Depots have gotten better, before the economy tanked you couldn't get any help from an orange clad employee. They literally acted like they didn't care at every Home Depot that I had been in. In heavy contrast, the Lowes employees were extremely helpful, and that won my loyalty.

I myself definitely go with Home Depot. Lowes is clean but I'm not there for a picnic nor an art gallery atmosphere ya know... The pricing is always cheaper here in my parts at HD. I spent about $75-80 bucks on pure screws alone this last season at HD, and it was going to cost me $90+ at Lowes. It may only be $10 or 15 bucks but hey, I'm going to be as cost effective as possible so I can use the extra savings elsewhere within my haunt.
As for the Lumber, Lowes is ALWAYS overpriced here in SoCal. Maybe in other parts its cheaper, but not in my area... Now I know that Lowes offers a price match deal with GREAT customer service, but who has time to go and stand in the returns/customer service line anyhow! I don't! Now for the orange suits/vested employees not giving me a hand nor offer to help me.. I really do not care as I always know my Hardware store and rarely need help unless its to open a caged item or so.. I'm more of a go-getter rather than a go ask-her kinda guy! Lol!

Both stores are very close to my house, with a Lowes only 3-4 minutes away. As a girl, I have a preference towards Lowes - something about the layout seems less intimidating and easier to find things. I always do price comparisons for larger purchases, for example, I bought all of the electrical conduit for my cemetery fence at Home Depot last year. As far as customer service goes, for the two stores closest to me the Lowes wins hands-down. Employees there are always so helpful for not only locating things but asking about my specific project and offering suggestions. I know I've saved money from their help. Ironically, I did have my first bad Lowe's experience yesterday when the older gentleman in the garden center seemed to dislike helping me find different components to mix for organic fertilizer, and suggested half a dozen times I should just use Miracle Grow.

Lol! Miracle Grow, what a lazy worker! Too funny! Should have asked him where the Fem Hygiene isle was located!... :P
I would say for those non regulars in the Hardware store field of trades to visit Lowes. As for saving some do and not requiring extra help, shop Home Depot. Now I have a Lowes closer to my home(about .5 miles to be exact). But its worth the extra half mile to me. I have also made good friends here at my local HD. They have offered to save lumber shim dividers for me, old pallets and broken lumber pieces all given to me for free. The workers even call/text me at times, but hey, I'm a regular there so I do get the perks I guess. Lowes wouldn't even hear me out to ask about any of the items I was given at Home Depot... But I still say Lowes has better helping staff but not pricing. Ok, enough of my .89 cents! Lol!A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

We have no Lowes here in Canada that I know of, so I can't compare the two, but I do shop at our New Home Depot

We have Lowes here in Ottawa, Canada, and I must say, I do prefer Lowes to Home Depot (both are a few minutes apart for me). Usually, we compare both and then buy at the cheaper one. Lowes as lots of Halloween stuff too, zero for Home Depot.
