Thread: HD cable box questions

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I'm looking to get a couple cable boxes for our home but, don't want to rent through comcast. I would rather just buy something. I'm not looking for a dvr box but, just a hd box so I can get better reception and the higher channels. Do I have to get one from comcast or can I just buy one of cl or ebay, plug it in and scan for channels? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just talked to my local cable guy & the basic answer is no....sorry!

Ok, ty. I just asked someone who works with electronics yesterday and he said the same thing. Hate the idea of having to rent one. Oh well, they have a monopoly on cable here anyways so we are stuck with them. Thanks for asking.

Yeah, they encode the Digital signal so it'll only work on the boxes you get from them....More $$$$ for them...
