Is anyone else obsessed with Bats? I know its a cliche a girl who like Halloween loves bats, but I really love them.

When I was a little girl I saw these boys killing a little tiny bat with a rock. I was crying and so upset telling them to let it go. It really effected me I was probably 5 at time but I remember it so clearly to this day. I always wish I could go back in time, or been bigger and done something to stop it.
    Sorry, depressing story I know.

Be careful around bats though. Worse than raccoons for rabies. Standard practice these days is to give you rabies shots if you've been near a bat even if there's no obvious bite marks.

They are cool, provided they mind their own business. As stated, the buggers are notorious for rabies I remember one being loose inside of the high school early in the morning (fun time). My father's friend up north had a whole community of them living in his barn at one time, apparently, and it had to have been like the opening to Scooby Doo whenever they'd come flying out

Mizerella, I agree; that is terrible. I'd gladly take a boulder and drop it on 'people' (used very loosely) like that

Xane, that pic is hilarious. Is that you giving it a brushing?

Nah, that's a pic that's been going around the internet for awhile. Adorable little batty.

    OH gosh, love that picture!

I wish they could be pets, but I would never try to make one a pet. They are wild animals and should always stay that way.
I admire them from afar. And if one ever needed rescuing, I'm there!

A few years ago a bat somehow got into my house during the middle of the night. I didn't realize it was in the house, what woke me up was the noise my cats were making as they were going nuts chasing the poor little thing all over the place, finally cornering it in the bathroom. Not realizing what was going on, I walked into the bathroom and turned on the light. This really scared the bat and it flew across the room, landed on my BARE leg, and "suctioned" itself to my leg!

I started doing a crazy dance trying to shake it off me but it was so scared it wouldn't let go. I finally had to reach down and pull it off. It then took off flying and landed on a wall in the dining room about six inches from the ceiling. Believe me, by this time I was totally freaked out! It took me a few minutes to calm down enough to get a stepladder and a little box. My idea was to somehow shoo him into the box and take him outside.

While up on the stepladder I was just inches away from the little guy. I'd never seen a bat that close up. What shocked me the most was how adorably cute he was. His face looked a lot like my black cat (who is totally adorable) only shrunk down to a teeny-tiny toy size. I immediately stopped being scared of it and started thinking "oh poor baby, I'll bet you're scared to death!" Anyways, he was totally cooperative and I was able to nudge him into the box and get him outside. He flew away and has never come back to visit. Guess he didn't like the cats!

As soon as the vet opened I called and asked if my cats were in any danger due to the bat being in the house (rabies issue). The tech said they should be OK since they'd had their vaccines. But she said I'd have to see a doctor and I ended up having to have the rabies series. The doctor looked very closely at my leg and even though there was no sign that the bat had bitten me I still had to have the shots as a precaution. Yuck. That wasn't any fun.

But now anytime someone says something mean about bats being ugly or gross or whatever, I always tell them that bats are just about the cutest little things you'd ever want to see!

Oh my, I think bats are just adorable! I'm right there with you, Miz, I wish they could be pets. You're right though, we've imposed on wild animals plenty in that category.

Now, this isn't to say I didn't drop to the floor last month when one buzzed me in MIL's living room!

    Oh, and Tarker...

Your story had me laughing out loud. Aside from the shots, of course!

Well I don't think any bat is ugly or gross, but they're not always so cute as the brushie brushie brushie bat. Some of them are downright creepy!

I love watching them in my garden on a summers night. I always know when they've come out, all my cats vanish outside and watch them from their outdoor cat run.
