I'm testing right now...
From what I understand, the font size did not change, but the background color is sightly darker, and the text is no longer white - it's a pale gray. That may make the font look smaller/harder to read compared to the old format, but it's still being tweaked from what I understand. I know just from my graphic design background that reading reverse (white/light) text on a dark background is ALWAYS going to be more difficult than black text on light. 
So testing to change font color and sizing...
Using setting number 2 text here in this sentence. This is the default size for all text from the look of it.
Using setting number 3 text in this particular sentence.
Using setting number 4 in this sentence and changing the color too...
No problems changing size or color for me... maybe it is a browser issue? I use Firefox if that makes any difference. 
In Firefox, you can go into your preferences and change the default fonts for ALL sites - both color and sizing. It's under "Content" and then go to the Advanced section of the Fonts & Colors area. It gives you a checkbox to allow your choices to override the settings of all websites - so you could technically play with the font sizing to see if you like that better.
