Okay so as of tomorrow, I will be out of a job. I am not getting fired, its just that our company is in a tough time and cut my hours to zero. So I am in a tough spot trying to find work, all the work is taken by kids back from college. This leads me to following one of my dreams. Starting a small fx buisness and selling Silicone masks and props online. Its always been a dream to actually be a part of the haunt industry and not just following it. Being an 18something teenager and out of school until fall semester, do you think its something for me to pursue?
So far I have-
-Enough supplies to create 4-5 sculpts and moulds on hand
-Time, and lots of it
-A dedicated studio
-$1000 start up money to help with supplies
-A buddy to create my website
-Alot of the skill and know how needed
-The backing and patience of my friends and family
So my question to y'all is- If you were given the opportunity to do this, would you grasp the opportunity? I really want some unbiased outside opinions from people who don't know me first hand.
I put this in off-topic since I didn't want to pollute General Halloween with an almost feeler thread

The #1 piece of advice I can give you is: Don't take payments in advance then take forever to do the work. This will kill your business instantly. This is why I quit selling props completely and still have a 9-5 job. If I'm self employed I work too slowly due to procrastination. If you are a big procrastinator, you need to be honest with yourself and decide whether you can overcome it or if you know you'll never be able to stay on top of things. My current side job requires me to go to the customer's house and fix things, so even being "self employed" I still have to do the work on time with no distractions.

Hi Biggie,
You seem motivated to me. You've put together a plan with a list of pros (I didn't see any cons) and took the time to lay it out and present it to us.
I think since school doesn't begin again until the fall semester, you could at least register for fall and pay for it on time. In the meantime, you've got about 3 months to give this a try. During that three months, I think you'll be able to decide whether you really want to pursue this and whether you are self-motivated enough to follow through and complete steps in a timely manner as Xane indicated is very important.
If you decide during the next 3 months that this is what you want to continue doing, you should be able to drop the fall classes before they begin for a full refund (verify this and know the deadline ahead of time - and I'm assuming you're talking college classes - if you haven't finished high school, I highly recommend that you do). And if you decide this is more than you want to take on, you've got your fall schedule already set and ready to go.
I say go for it now and give it a try while you have about 3 months. Give yourself the opportunity to discover whether this is really what you want.
Do I sound like a teacher? Sorry! Just trying to help, and I sincerely hope that you find your life's calling by doing this.

At 18 everyone had a dream job in mind, your at the perfect age to fail, happily. You only have yourself to worry about( not kids, and entire family to go down with you). Go for it!

Thanks Shadows, Yeah its college classes, however I am still in my parents domain so I have to please them. I am either in school or working, and they have agreed that this is a legitimate opportunity. However I will have to goto classes in the fall, I will only be going 3 days a week(community college). That still leaves me with enough work time.
So after discussing this with people at work today, everyone so far has been very supportive. They all have seen my work ethic and how dedicated I am to whatever project is at hand. After much debate and some long talks, SkinWalker Fx should be underway as soon as next week. I really cannot believe this is actually happening, and I am praying I can make this a success.
Thanks for the insight and thoughts, plan on seeing big things come your way soon!We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside of us

Good for you, good luck skinwalker! I think you'd better change your domain name though.
