This got people talking on the PIF thread, so I thought I'd start a new one and move the discussion over here.

Basically, we learned Sunday that my FIL, his brother & his dad who all live together near Reno, were victim to a home invasion, armed robbery & then kidnapped. A man wearing a ski mask woke my FIL at gun-point around 4 a.m. He stated he knew there were guns in the house & wanted them. My uncle is a federal firearms dealer as his profession. He only sells at gun shows so all the guns are locked securely in safes in his home. My FIL did not know the combos so the invader woke my uncle. They tried to fight him, only to realize they could not win.

At one point they were bound with zip ties as handcuffs. They were forced to load the guns (50+) into my uncle's vehicle. Then they were forced to drive as the guy held a gun on them from the back seat. He had them pull off the road & get out. They were sure they were going to be killed. But he stole their car & left them there.

They came across a police officer as they were walking down the road in their boxers. Thankfully the guy & his accomplice were caught within 24 hours. They did not know them, but clearly the men knew they had guns. Their 91 year old dad who was a prisoner of war for 4 years in WWII slept throught it all (including one gun shot going off during the scuffle). He woke when they were gone and the invader had removed the phone from the wall. He was very worried.

I can't believe there are people like that in the world. We are thankful they are okay but they are starting counseling for PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). I can barely sleep at night & it didn't happen to me! Below are a couple news stories that covered it.

I'm so sorry this happened to your family. What a horrible thing to have to go through. I can't believe that there are people like this in the world either. Best wishes for you and your family.

OMG how horrible! I can only imagine the fear they had during this ordeal. I am thankful for one thing - that the grandfather slept through it all. Douche bags like the invaders should be shot on scene so we can be saved tax money instead of caring for their dead-beat @$$es !!!

Yes, they definitely look like criminals. The newest news is they increased their bail amounts by quit a bit.

Sheesh... I am very sorry about that, Halloween Princess. Glad they caught the perps.

Why in the world would you even consider giving those dingbats bail? Look like a flight risk to me....

We just had two murders in the last week and a half. One of which happened last night where the suspects knew, or thought they knew that the victims had money in the house. One of the murders involved a helpless 81 year old man. We made 4 arrests in that case and two of them are juveniles. The one from last night we are still working on.

So sad there are juveniles involved in this stuff. Newest news is they've arrested 6 more people in connection. Turns out this group was responsible for at least 2 more armed robberies earlier in May. They are targeting elderly people who at least one of the robbers has known the family of since childhood.
