Come to Kansas for the epic hail, wind, snow and rain. Stay for the tornadoes!
Here's a quick video I took of a nasty hail storm that hit last night:
It pummeled our cement tile roof and seems to have chipped/cracked a fair amount of tiles. The line of hail fire was on the garage side and in the picture below all those dark spots are hits from the hail. When it hit, I thought for sure we were going to lose windows. But, overall I think we got through it okay. Called a roofer first thing this morning (wanted to get on the list). He said it tore off many of his window screens. Hubby's boss's car was outside and said it's severly damaged.

Terra,
It really picked up strength after the storm hit here around 7:30 last night. The largest hail I saw was marble sized, not Golf Ball. There was only minor damage here, sorry about the damage you received. And yes, the tornadoes are only weeks away.

Yikes!
I got caught out in a hail storm coming home from work last year. Of course I was out in the middle of nowhere so I had to pull off and try to shelter my car in an overhang and just pray that the stones wouldn't break the windshield. The hail was about the size of a quarter and it was scary!
Hope the house damage is minimal and they get you fixed up fast!I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

So, how did people measure hail before golf balls were invented?

Heheh. I thought for sure that they were golf ball sized until I got a real golf ball.
Well, looks like we had more damage than thought. The gutters look like they were in a war and a lot of the wood trim around the windows are shredded. Oh, and my trees... The trunks look like they were shot at. My poor neighbors though. Two cars were out in it and they are toast. One said that his roof is heavily damaged and another lost two windows. I just called the Ins. co. to see if we should have an adjuster out and if they were busy. "Oh yeah!" She said, "Roofs, paint, gutters, windows... oh my!" At least she's got a good sense of humor.
FG, I bet that was terrifying. Didn't get footage of the peak of the storm because it was just exploding out there! To be in a car... how horrifying.
Merlyn, can't wait for tornado season! Ugh.

Well that same system made it to us. Thank goodness we did not have any hail. We have had a lot of wind damage and the power is out for a lot of people. The only thing that happened to me is I ended up with two extra trash cans in my yard. The house two doors down ended up with all the trash in his yard including a couple of bags stuck to his garage door. Some minor damage to some of the houses in my neighborhood but several houses had trees fall on them around the area. Glad that system is blown through now.
We dont need a body bag, we need a bucket.............and a strainer.

Sorry to hear about your storm. It could have been worse. It could have been the night before Halloween!!!!! Hope that you are back to normal very soon.

Good news, the roofer came out today and said that we just need minor repairs to it (yippee!). Last up, see what the adjuster thinks in regards to overall damage. With hail damage, there is a high deductible so it'll look like we'll have to cover the damages ourselves. But, seems we'll get off rather lightly compared to other neighbors: many of the asphalt and wood singled roofs nearby will need significant or complete replacement. We're taking this in stride and grateful it wasn't worse. Sure have a newfound respect for the power of hailstorms.
