I'm new to this and want to put a picture onto my profile? How? Thanks

Up at the top, it will say 'User/CP', which you'll want to click. One of the options on the left side after you do that is 'Edit Profile Picture'. Once you click on that, you'll be able to alter it. Hope this helps

The "FAQ" tab at the top right of your user menu bar also has info on avatars, signatures, and the like.
