For everyone that enjoys the beloved Haunted Mansion attraction at Walt Disney World you may or may not have heard that a lot of changes are taking place.
1) a new interactive queue area
2) CGI hitchhiking ghosts
3) and the leaked Hatbox Ghost return (just in time for the movie)
You can see some of the interactive queue here:
and some video with comments, on the (temporary) new hitchhiking ghosts
effect at the end of the attraction; replacing the two-way mirror gag.
What's your take on the classic attraction overhaul? Better, Worse, or just Needs some tweaks here-n-there!

Love the new queue a lot! So much to do and wonder at.
I noticed something that I'll try to incorporate in the next tombstone. You notice the mausoleum's concrete facade where the cracks are (7:27)? The slabs are angled away from the cracks. Nice realistic touch there.
The hitchhiking ghosts aren't bad but the video said these were temporary so very curious to see what the new version will look like.

I like it. At there's something to do and play with while you're waiting in those giant lines.

The captain's mausoleum is said to be based around the original storyline for the Haunted Mansion. It's good to see it being reworked into the attraction. My thinking is the WDI wanted to stear away from the misconception that Master Gracy, is the Ghost Host, a long fought battle between imagineers and park guests. Master Gracy isn't the owner of the house. Do we finally know who is...is it the Sea Captain. Is he the ghost host?
This mausoleum leaks water from its many cracks and crevices as the ghost captain wails and moans drowning in his stone-lined tub. When guest try to plug up all the leaking holes the Captain sneezes and sends a shower of water on the guests, which I'm certain feels nice and cool on a hot, humid Florida day.
Another intreractive area, are the talking busts. The busts in the queue area talk while people in line try to solve the mysteries of their deaths. There's lots of stuff in the queue area that is sure to make your wait more enjoyable. Great for whinny kids!
The attraction itself is being retrofitted with better speakers, cleaner projected effects and a revamped (from what I hear) a 3D interactive hitchhiking ghost 2-way mirror effect. Plus...I can't wait for THE hatbox ghost to make his long awaited arrival.
Damn...I wan't to go back to Disney World!

I like the new queue. It is more interesting for the kids, and for adults as well.

Good News the NEW hitchhiking ghost effect at the finale... is AWESOME!
The final scene is much like the old two way mirror effect, but on steroids.
As you glace at the window in the final scene; the hitchhiking ghosts not only follow you home, but they interact with the riders in real time. Watch as they take off "your" head and juggle it, blow it up like a balloon, switch it with their own, switch it with your passangers head, and other wacky weirdness. Really fun ending to the revamped final scene, that leaves you more fullfilled and happy as you leave the attraction.
I would post a video, but all of the youtube vids don't do it justice! Go to WDW and see it for yourself!

Awesome! I am little bummed though. We were just there in October of last year, and now I have to figure out how to (financially) work it into this years plans. I just gotta see it!
I'm all that's left of a bizarre childhood.......
