Watching the video footage of the quake and huge tsunami was really unsettling. I think when all is said and done the death toll will be staggering and the damage will no doubt be in the billions. Prayers outbound for that nation and all who are affected.
Americans sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

I too would like to pass along my thoughts and deepest sympathy to all involved, and may those survivors get through it together

Freaky stuff. The Planet was hit by an M Class Solar Flare at the same time as the Earthquake in Japan. Check this out - http://indianinthemachine.wordpress....arch-8th-2011/
The discharge would have struck Earths Magnetosphere at almost the same instant the Earthquuake occurred. Massive Aurora Beaurealis activitywas noted in Northern Canada after seeing vituually nothing in the past three years. This could be the start of something huge; some scientists are predicting an X Class Flare in the next two weeks. And, hey, we've got a major Full Moon coming up right at that time. The moon will be close to Perigee, its closest approach to Earth. Seismologists are holding their collective breath over the Juan De Fuca Plate giving way. If it goes, it would be Richter 9. That would rock the Seattle-Vancouver area.
In September 0f 2009 Samoa got hit with a tsunami. They're more common, and more frightening, than people safe and sound in the US ever imagined.Wolfman

I know, that is truly terrible. If any of the members here are from Japan, let us know that you are safe, please.

Looking at some of the images remind me of the devastation after the nukes were dropped back in the late 40s!

This is so so very sad. The devastation is intense. Sending love and prayers from California.

We can do more than just staring at the images on the screens.
I mentioned at another message board, and it seems just as appropriate here, that humanitarian aid is greatly needed there at this time. If you have a method of donating, if you deal with an agency such as the Red Cross or others, and if you have the funds and are able to donate, now is the time.
Food, supplies and assistance are being sent there, but if you look at the scale of the event, it is easy to see that current efforts are only scratching the surface. More are needed.
Even if you are able to make only a small contribution, it is useful and a most appropriate and human thing to do."WHAT'S out there?"
