Later this evening the Earth will reach its furthest swing away from the Sun. Then it will curl around and race into a new year - a new voyage through the blackness of outer space. Here on Earth, on this darkest day of the year, tonight’s sky will be at its blackest as a full lunar eclipse hides Old Man Moon from sight.
Take heart, my comrades, because a new year of shrieks and howls has just begun. Let us raise our glasses and sing a new song of savagery.
