...and it is terminal.
Her name is Sally and she came with our house. (the folks we bought it from told us in closing about this spotted cat that was hanging out and they tried to chase her off and dropped her a few miles away but she came back...Of course we had to adopt her!) She LOVES Halloween (my two black kitties seem to hate it) and we call her our candy corn kitty.
She had a tiny little bump on her ribcage last month at her vet checkup and the vet told us it was probably a cyst or something but to keep an eye on it. Two weeks later, it had doubled in size. My hubby grew up with "lumpy" animals and wasn't too concerned but we agreed that if she still had it and/or it got bigger by Thanksgiving, we were taking her back in.
It did so we did - biopsy confirmed - cancer. The vet said it was "really scary" and she and the other vets had never seen one like this and it grew SO fast...it is now around a half dollar sized.
The vet told us that we could do the x-rays and see if it had infiltrated the rest of her system, and do surgery to remove, but she most likely would die under sedation (she has other health problems and age against her).
The vet said she's not in pain right now, so we are going to keep her as comfortable as possible and watch her - but we'll most likely have to make that horrible trip to the vet really soon.![]()

That's a rough situation. Knowing what you know however, you need to make that tough decision. As long as the cat is not in pain and can function independently, you can go the comfort route. I've been in a similar situation before and while it's not pleasant, you have to ask yorself who's needs are being met by keeping the pet alive. Like you said, age and other health problems are a factor so that might make it easier.

I'm so sorry to hear this, FG. Our pets are such a big part of our lives, they are like family, and it is so hard to let them go. Enjoy her while you have her, and here's hoping you have many more days to love her. Let us know how you all are doing, OK? I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

So sorry for the kitty
I used to be very much against putting animals to sleep but realized one day how lucky they are to have that option when humans don't. I lost my cat to cancer last year and it really does grow fast so keep a close watch.

I'm so sorry about your kitty FG...hugs to you.
As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

I know what this means to you. I have had to make that decision before. Not for my cat but for my wife's cat. I had never really thought of her as my cat but when the time came I was reduced to a 6'1" 265 pound blubbering little kid again. I bawled my heart out for hours and still miss her sitting on my lap. Now my 3 year old Great Dane has a disease of his spine. At times he can hardly get out of bed to go outside. He is in constant pain. I know I will have to make that decision again but I will give him as much time as I think he really wants. So hang in there. We are all thinking of you and your poor little kitty!

No other way to say it ....That Sucks!
Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)
