I've met a lot of deaf, blind and some handicapped people.... they're cool! Also, I've met a ver few dwarves too!

I am deafness, I lost my hearings when I was 2½ from spiral meningitis.

I worked a vid store for a while & we had several deaf customers. Most read lips so as long as I looked at them when I spoke, which I always tried to do once I learned they were deaf, I never had a problem & if I didn't understand I just said that I didn't understand & some would write things down.

I got to be pretty familiar with the relay operators too & still get some of those calls at my current job.

I learned from our deaf customers that, back in the day, most "adult" movies weren't captioned! LOL!

Growing up my best friends/neighbors were deaf/blind/badly burned and one had to walk with crutches. They introduced me to my husband who attended the same deaf/blind school as them. My husband eventually got his sight back shortly before he met me. Now that I think about it,these guys were what got us on really decorating for halloween...they knew how to have fun and didn't dwell on their handicaps. One of the blind guys(Blake Lindsey) went on to be a DJ somewhere in Texas I heard. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been for him.........

When I got out of high school and went to work at an industrial fabrication shop, we had 3 deaf - mutes. They were some of the most knowledgeable people I ever met, not due to the disability? But when the superviser wanted to ream them they just shrugged their shoulders and pointed to their ears signifiing they couldn't hear. The supervisor got pissed and I laughed my ass off!!!
