I want to support the companies that advertise here and provide good products and services. I'm just a bit T'd off about this though. I'm not going to call the company out by name at this time, but I think HF members need to beware. I have ordered stuff from several sellers that advertise here, including this one. I recommend that before your assume that "In Stock" means they actually have it on hand and place your order, ASK FIRST!
Here is the back and forth email. I've edited references that might identify this seller. As with any email, the sequence of emails sent and received runs from the bottom to the top.

Really? That's your answer? So when your website says "out of stock" it really means you haven't ordered any and "in stock" means you ordered it and expect to have it delivered at some future uncertain date? I think it is less than honest to tag something as "in stock" that is not only not in stock but still, even today, has no expected delivery date.

Our numbers reflect what we order in each year, not on hand.
We have zero control over the suppliers and when they will deliver what
We can only control what we ourselves produce in house.
FYI, you can order a (different brand of halloween device) from someone else, and have the same exact
issue.
They are ALL made abroad.

Hmm, I couldn't order other (halloween devices) you had because they were
out of stock so I think it was reasonable to assume you had
these on hand. Had I known you had to wait to get them from
Taiwan I think I would have ordered (a different brand of halloween devices) from someone else. Since you didn't offer an expected ship date, I'm left
to guess that you really have no clear idea of when they
might be ready to ship. I don't feel good about forking out
$285 with nothing to show for it and no certainty for the near future.

I'm wondering if this order has shipped yet. I paid for it on the
12th.

How frustrating! Sounds like false advertising. Not cool.

I don't think that you're being unreasonable. IN STOCK should mean that they physically have the merchandise there ready to be shipped. This is exactly why I seldom order things. I like to be able to get my stuff right then and take it home. No games that way.

You should tell us the name, so we can avoid the same problem.

Not unreasonable at all. In stock means actually in the stock area at the site of purchase, not onroute from some other companies location.
Its so nice to be insane, no one asks you to explain...

I would be angry as well, considering they're almost (if not they ARE) at fault for false advertising!! If it says "in stock" it means IN STOCK, they have the item and will ship it. It is wrong them to not disclose this bit of info to you when you purchased the item to give you an option to continue with the sale or not. I've seen some sites that say "check dates you need the item by, it make take 4-6 weeks for this item to be delivered to you". In fact, on that said site, every item had a different delivery time period and they took the time to note it with each item!! The place you're dealing with in your emails is not properly conducting business, they're not honest and they're plain lazy. On top of being rude!!

I don't think you are being unreasonable at all. I would be irritated beyond belief at that, and his attitude sucks to boot.

Have you checked the BBB? I'd be curious to see if they've had any complaints.
