I've never ordered from them online, but being a semi-Seattle native, I love their store.
It is two buildings of CRAP! It is a prop-builder's dream. If you make sets and props for plays, this store is for you. I can't even describe it. From rubber chickens to surgical tubing to typewriter returns to Mountie hats to exploding cigars to vacuum tubes to itching powder.
If you are ever in Seattle, it's a must see, on Market St. in Ballard.
Agreed! I have only been there once (my family lives in Port Angeles) and, to use the old saying, I felt like a kid in a candy store. They also have some "proper" costume items, but you really go in there for the random stuff. I would second wilbret's testimonial - amazing, odd things that immediately put you in a tinkering mindset. What made me a true fan of the store was the fact that I found a bin of glass taxidermy eyes! I had been looking for nice and creepy doll eyes for an accessory to a future costume, and had had no luck. I got a really nice assortment of eyes at Archie's for incredibly cheap, and supposedly when I went, they were actually low on variety (I had trouble believing that when I looked at all the beautiful peepers peering up at me from my arms)! Great store (and friendly staff)!
