Yeah, I know how he feels about Hot Topic. It's been taken over by the horrible emo scene that has run rampant amongst teenagers. There's always Cosmic, though, which is a locally owned goth/punk/skater clothing store. Hmmm....not sure about bars or clubs that are goth specific (there used to be two that were extremely goth friendly but they just tore down that block and I assume these places will relocate). So long as you stay out of the country bars every where else is accepting of the look. Tolly Ho is the after midnight goth hangout (a 24 hour restaurant). Lexington Cemetery was the first public cemetery in Kentucky, opened in 1849, and is the 2nd largest cemetery in our state. It is absolutely gorgeous! You can see photo galleries here: http://lexcem.org/index.cfm/cemeteryart.html And yes, the leaves change in the fall. Normally in October. When do you think you'll be visiting? If you'll tell me a little more about your interests I can maybe provide more info for you. And I don't mind at all to answer questions. Glad I could be of some help!
Thank you for replying! I'll definitely let you know how the landscape goes - I'll post pics when I'm done and contact you with questions along the way I'm sure That's good that the city isn't as bad as I thought it might be! He'll be going to school too hopefully so he would just be looking for part time work, preferably as an artist of some sort (his major). He is originally from NYC where his look helped him get jobs, and moving down here was quite the culture shock for him! They did try to hire him at the local Hot Topic alreadly lol. He can't stand the 'teeny-boppers' though So - are there any particular bars/clubs that may be considered more 'goth' or 'alternative' I could take him to? We're hoping to go up in the Fall some time (the leaves are changing colors then right? I'm so used to Florida I don't even know anymore!) Any cool cemetaries or just nice scenic spots? I keep searching for info online but all I get is horses and racing lol. Sorry for the random harassing, but I'm so glad you don't seem to mind!
Haha, Lexington is a college town, so even if the rest of the state is "red" Lexington is not. There's a lot to do here for all types of people...you just have to look for it. I guess it just depends on what kind of job he's trying to get. I see tattooed, pierced people working at Walmart, Taco Bell, that kind of place but I have no idea about the corporate world. Then there are the places that will always hire people with that look - bars, nightclubs and strip clubs (we have lots of all three). And there's always Hot Topic! I'll be glad to answer any other questions you might have. That's great about the Spooky Town landscape! I didn't put all the details in my post so if you need help with any of it just drop me a line and I'll fill you in on what I did.
Rikki - I just started lurking around this place after finding it when I searched for "Spooky Town". I LOVE IT! I'm actually using your tutorial soon to make my 'base' for my little town...thanks so much for adding it I also have an offbeat question for you - my bf and I are looking at moving to Lexington next year. I'm applying to the UK for my phd program and while our real goal is the new england area, lexington is much cheaper and I lived there for a year back in middle school and remember loving it. My question to you is - my bf does NOT like the idea of living in a 'red' state...he's very, uh, different (covered in tats, into goth/artsy stuff)...is there anything to do in Lexington for someone with his tastes? Would he be banished by most places if he tried to find a job there? As I said, I know this is totally random but I don't know anyone else in KY and want to plan a trip for us up there soon and have been trying (unsuccessfully) to find places online that I could take him to while were there, to 'convince' him that Lexington is a great place! Thanks in advance! Erica
