    Terra,

Have you ever tried a Spayer? I'm talking about using a Windex Sprayer for the Actone. Just a thought.

I showed my husband your tutorial videos. He thinks you are so talented, too! Although he wished you lived closer so he could take a class from you! Like I said before I think of the ideas and he makes them better. I can't wait til I get to finish my first tombstone using your method...though I am making it using those foam panels I got from the insulation place that closed. I hope they'll still turn out great! I'll be sure to post pics soon!

    Terra,

The airbursh technique didn't work. My guess is when it vaporizes it to spray, the concentration is too low to work. I used it undiluted too. Cleaned the heck out of my airbrush though!

Went to Rite Aid and they didn't have any eye droppers! So I will have to check tomorrow at another place.

Terra, I didn't try to make any cracks, it occurred to me after wards. All the dents and worn out areas were done by dripping acetone onto it from the paper towel. I'm going to get an eye dropper from Rite Aid and test it on an extra piece of foam. I wonder if it (acetone) would work with my airbrush?

    Terra,

Working on my next tombstone and I remembered something you said on weathering. You use acetone. I tried this and it came out ok. I soaked a paper towel in acetone and squeezed it so the acetone would drip onto the foam and eat it. My goal was more of a "natural" look. I'm thinking of using a dropper next time to better concentrate the fluid. Have you tried this technique? My reason for it is: I'm just not happy with the fake cracks, they look fine, but they could look better.

This will go with my Zombie Chef. The Tombstone is suppose to be shaped like his hat.

Anyway here it is, I still have moss to apply and a little more weathering.

Your welcome, one of these days you should do a tutorial on the different wild fire paints and their effects if you ever get the time. They are pretty expensive and there are no locale dealers near me to demo them. I made the mistake of using tempera fluorescent paint once and I probably dont have to tell you what happened when the sprinklers accidently went off!

Thanks for the tube tutorials Terra. So nice to find a sight where artists are willing to share what they know.

Faux Metal Haunt Boxes: Tutorial

by Terra on 05-07-2012 at 06:58 AM
Here's a space filler for large voids or openings in your haunt. Plus they look cool too:

These were large cardboard boxes given a makeover using paint and monster mud.

Please watch this quick video to help you get an overall idea of how the build will be like:

Foam Sculpt and Scale Halloween Monster Props: Tutorial

by Terra on 04-29-2012 at 04:56 PM

This tutorial will show how to design, cut, carve, sand, scale and paint a prop made out of foam. It will follow a Hell Hound build made for our 2012 haunt. The Hell Hound is a static yet intimidating prop. If it was real monster it would measure 10' nose to tip of tail. The prop's tail is curled so it's actual length is 8' but the height is still

8' long Tentacle Arms: Tutorial

by Terra on 03-22-2012 at 04:24 AM
Got these terrific tentacle arms from Fright Props but needed two things to make them work for our haunt. First, they needed to be hangable. Second, they had to be extended another 3 feet to be long enough to hang from the 13' ceilings in the garage so they'd be scary. The plan was to have five of them in a tight part of the haunt and the little ToTs had to touch them to go around. To make it even more intimidating - they were painted in fluorescent paint, two were rotating slowly on mirror ball

Transworld 2012

by Terra on 03-16-2012 at 07:33 AM
It was bigger this year! I didn't see huge new stand-out props BUT the vendors took existing ideas and ramped it up to level 11. It was awesome. As usual made a highlight video which is the best way to get an overview of the show:

My favorite prop of the show was The Thing-type monster grabbing at the girl on the table. Made by Dark Raven Designs. $3,650

Castle Of Terra: Vampyr Reign 2012 Plan

by Terra on 02-19-2012 at 06:04 AM
Alrighty, it's time once again to plan the haunt. This year's theme is Vampyr Reign which may be familiar to you. This was also the theme for 2009. We have three rotating themes to cut down on the work of designing and building. Hopefully 3 years is enough time for the ToTs to completely forget what it was like. But, that doesn't mean everything is exactly the same. In fact, starting to think that I might as well make a new name for the haunt because there are so many new things this year.
